Default Racing at Laguna Seca this next weekend June 7-9th 2012 AV8SS and ITE (VIDEO UP)

Its racing time again. SCCA is having their double regional this next weekend. Ill be running with the AV8SS group, but we will all be running with the ITE and group 3, so it should be fun

still got to get the video put together from the last race. got the mpeg stuff now, but have to edit it, putting the front and rear cam together . some good racing footage and lots of good 928 sounds!!!!

Mark

Great weekend racing with the AV8SS group as well as the ITE folks that were in our group. Plus, we had a split start with the group 3 racers too. *(unlimited and GT3 porsches and other riff raff)

great race, car ran flawlessly , as usuall, except for a badly cracked rotor that appeared after practice. got a little longer in qualifying, and during the race, it held together (amazing) lots looked at it and rolled their eyes that i was going to risk it, especially at laguna. but, with 315s up front, did a lot of push tire braking and quick brake stabs and was able to keep it together. However, interesting enough, the ride home was scary. it had a lot of vibration on the way home. needless to say, ill be getting some new GTS rotor mounted soon, plus, might be trying some PFC01s for pads.

the race was cool, in that i was able to stay ahead of the brand new corvette LS7 of randy, and david smithi in the PTG wannabe BMW m3. times were good in qual, as i got into the 1:36s again.

got some decent video, did some rubber laying out of turn 11 a few times as the hoosiers went away, and hit the rev limiter a few times to show that amsoil still protects the 928 stock component race engines!!

had an interesting battle with the Z06 2006 with 505 stock HP, but gutted and Hoosier clad at 3000lbs. we were remarkably even down the straights, a testimate to the motor that Tim Todd built up! might not have the peak hp, but its broad so it pulls pretty well! Of course, the way the car is set up is so easy to drive right now at the edge.

Here are a few shots.

I always bring a spare too! this was not there at the begining of practice! then, WOW, there it was. and no spare rotor. so, i watched it grow 1/2" after qual to the hub and started really having doubts to run the race. did it with intent to pull out if i felt a vibration. it was smooth, but i really compromised my braking points the entire race.
goes to show how tough porsche metalurgy is! is that was a honda rotor, it would have been in pieces!

I saw a Ford Mustang "Cobra" rotor destroy itself in Lemons.....it sent BIG chunks all over the track....a large one went through the raditator and into the engine of some FWD crap can...... It was our 1st race back in 09......we were lucky to avoid it!!!!!

Great job holding off that Vette! Really cool to see you just walk away from him on the first straight.

It took a few laps to get around him, but it was really closely matched to my car. pretty cool that an old 20 year old 928 can be matched with a 505hp zo6 race prepped racer. I still get a kick out of how capable the 928 is with all stock stuff on it. (albeit , a slghtly bigger displacement engine) he has the 427, i have the 390.

check out the first straight. got to love the 6600rpm rev limiter blip during the drag race with the PTG style M3.
