Curt, i finally think my old 78 is worthy of making this trip from Rochester. next up, maybe contacting your Dad for an estimate on paint. i doubt that'll happen before winter though

i'll look into getting there in the fall, looks/sounds like a blast. Any activities at all for the kids? (9-12 yr olds) just wondered. thanks, Matt

No particular things for kids to do other than be your pit crew. Mine come and hang out for a bit, but it is admittedly boring for them sitting around all day. Though we have a guy who brings a driving simulator when he can, he may be at October.

I've bought more than my fair share over the years, just giving him free advertising now.

He actually brought his printer with him to the track and was selling/printing them while you wait.

Curt,

Thanks for the invite, how do I go about signing up for that one in the fall everyone is talking about?

Is that one at the Glen?

If I know you guys are going to be there I'll give it a shot. Is it OK to PM you with questions leading up to it about the inspection and things like a helmet and stuff?

My car doesn't look anywhere near as nice as any of yours, but it runs great so I'm sure I'll have a blast.

Ed, I haven't seen you since Tony put that thing together at Rhinebeck a couple of years ago. Would love to catch up and check out your car.

Can you make it to Brainerd, MN, Elkhart Lake, WI or Topeka, KS?

I have. At a PCA event people will be good to you whatever you drive and if you're friendly you won't have to lunch alone.

PCA Event calendar

The Minnesota region ("Nord Stern") will be doing these DEs:

Road America, Elkhart Lake, WI 7/9/2012 7/10/2012
Brainerd International Raceway 7/27/2012 7/29/2012
Brainerd International Raceway 9/22/2012 09/23/2012

This region is more structured than others and requires previous track experience or attending a "Driver's Training" day. The next one is Sept. 21 at BIR. At that event you do classroom instruction and drive with an instructor in the car all day. No one has ever failed to be approved...although I was close.

I attended an event with the Kansas City region at Topeka and my impression was that they combined "DT and "DE" and novices were taught during the regular sessions. Check around.

Get new brake pads. Flush brake fluid with DOT 4. Fill with Amsoil 20w50 race oil.

And have fun!

Ed,

You're the best! I'll definitely take you up on the tech inspection.

I would definitely be bringing all of my spare parts, liftbars and stuff, but I'd still be nervous flying 'solo' that far from home and planning to drive home. I'm really looking forward to it...

This time I'm actually going to do it!

I had to quote this so you can't back out!!
We should plan to meet up and convoy together and hopefully we can recruit more 928'ers to come! The more 928's there the less taildraggers to pass.

Ha-ha. Now that my kids aren't competing in the fall I don't have to worry about weekend conflicts. I've got no excuses anymore.

Mike PM'd you. Can't wait to get you guys up here. My house is about 1-1/2 hours from the track so if we need anything I can always run home. There is a big WalMart in town for things you forgot to bring and UPS-Red delivers to the track if needed. We can always find a place for another 928er.

We are all about education, not racing up here. Our classroom instructor is one of the best with more than 25 years of DEing in his back ground. Everyone has an instructor, even people who say they are solo and run in Black get a check-out ride. Like I said safety first. Helmet needs to be Snell M or SA or the new SAH 2005 or 2010 rated. Other than the standard no major leaks/loose ball joints/steering/thottle, broken windows/lights, acceptable pads/rotors/tire tread depth/wheels you be in for some fun.

We get a multitude of NJ/PA/MD/VT/NH/MA guys so finding a group to travel with is relatively easier if you are a PCA'er and contact guys you see on the roster.

Everyone is welcome all makes and models of cars less the SUV/Van/truck types.......

I would be able to make Road America I am sure. Done DE with PCA clubs here at Marshalltown track and DE down at Kirkwood Community College. Also done DE at Blackhawk Farms 15 years ago in my SHO.

Does that work?

Sure it was DE not AX? Never heard of a DE at a Community College.

DE is on an actual racetrack AX is a parking lot or go kart track.

Well it was called Driver Education and we had 3 hours of classroom stuff them moved on to different areas of the college's driving course. We had a skid pad, braking threshold education, emergency lane change stability education and a couple other things. Was put on by PCA local chapter instructor.

We didn't have a course per se to drive through. It was segment after segment.

The DE at Blackhawk Farms was on the track.

The go cart track I would have to call AX.
