Best place for fun is the Seneca Lodge, great bar and tons of history going back to the F1 days. But the rooms are not the best, hence the bar being so much fun...... You can get anything from a cabin (bathroom, bed, a few plugs and no TV think hunting camp style) to a normal hotel room to a A-Frame Adirondack style place. I just stayed two days in a cabin for ~$116. Closest place to the track itself, plus we do the early check in stuff all right there the night before the first day.
Otherwise Glen Motor Inn and a new very nice place downtown (harbor inn i think) are good, but there are litterally a tons of places if you search.

I'm a wuss. I'm officially a wuss.
I'll admit it, I'm chicken.
I would LOVE to do a DE but having never been to one I have no idea what to expect and I don't want to screw up and damage someone else's car or make a fool of myself. I have a million excuses and none of them is really a good one.
Would love to go as a group one time so I'd kind of know someone there but until then I'll just sit on the side and dream. Maybe I need a mentor or something, I dunno.

That tracktime photographer is standing about where I was standing during the first lap of the first race I ever attended (1980 US F1 race). Got hooked on the car thing right there....

For our DE don't wait to long, we fill up rather quick. Our May DE was full ~ 2 months before.
Mike, just come for a visit, it is no different than driving on the road at higher speeds in an controlled environment (no cars coming the otherway all the safety equipment jumping in to help). You only drive as fast as you want, no one, I'll repeat NO ONE will push you too fast. If they do you let us know and we straighten them out. There is a huge comradarie at these events as everyone is here to help each other. We had two days without any contact between cars, 1 cut-down tire, one thottle cable split and 4 engine issues (1 944, 2 996, 1 993, 1 BMW 135i) and those were people trying really hard.

Court Shark, Mike and Jeff - et al.
First, the Glen is a wonderful track for a 928. I've driven about a dozen well known tracks over the past 8 years or so since I started DE's, and it is the one I truly love to drive (VIR is second). Also, the Niagara Region runs a first class event, there instruction process is great, and it is one of the better Regions that I've driven with (again about a dozen different Regions). I highly ENCOURAGE anyone who is interested in learning to better appreciate their car, and drive it in a much safer environment while doing so to attend this (or another DE) event.
Seneca Lodge has some "motel" type rooms that are actually pretty decent with two queen size beds, a shower, and TV (no telephone, but with cell service and WiFi). I think they are about $75 per night during October when Niagara runs their next event for all run groups. I'll be staying there, and have room # 50 reserved already. Since I'm ~250 miles away and just had my 75th birthday, I now stay 3 nights - before, during and after the 2 day event. And - the history of Glen Motor Inn, where the F-1 drivers used to stay, and it's excellent Italian restaurant overlooking Lake Seneca is another "must do" while you are there.
Mike, I've probably driven 6-7K miles on tracks in DE events. I've NEVER seen a 2 car incident, although 1 car incidents do occur. With 100-150 cars at an event and 30-45 on the track at a time, there are usually 1 or 2 cases where the driver exceeded either his/her capability, or made a very bad decision (actually, it may be a testosterone issue, as I've never seen a woman involved in an incident, although there are frequently a dozen or so driving). 90% of those are in the top/highest speed run groups of instructors and "wanna be" instructors. The green/yellow group (novices and one step up) almost never have any such incidents, as the instructors who are passengers in the cars are very good, and stress driving the correct line, smoothness in all car movements and safety - NOT speed. Speed comes with LOTS of seat time and accomplishing the smoothness aspects. Come on - register for Niagara's October event. You will never regret it, and are very likely to become infected - as I did.
Jeff - Come on and join us. The drive across northern PA on your way to the Glen in early October is one of the more beautiful drives in the USA at that time of year. I-80, connecting with PA 15 north is truly a gorgeous route. Also - I've traveled from SE PA to Road America in WI, and that's at least as far as Iowa to Watkins Glen. It's not a long drive in a 928, and your car will run even better on the way home than it does on the way to the track. And, where else are you or anyone going to drive on an AUTHENTIC Formula One Track - as the Glen was in the 70's and '80's?
Hope to see AT LEAST Fourteen 928's at this October DE. So far the record has been 13 at a DE at the Glen in ~2002, sponsored by the CT Valley Region of PCA (picture actually in Panorama). On some occasions, I'm the ONLY 928 driver in attendance. Drivers of the '70-s through '90's vintage 911 cars who are relatively new to DE's are frequently a bit surprised that their "real sports car" can not outrun a 928 on this track!
Cheers all, and contact Curt ASAP to get enrolled for early October. Looking forward to seeing and meeting ALL of you there.

If you only ever do a DE event once in your lifetime, make sure it is the Niagra Region PCA DE at Watkins Glen hands down!!!!! They run an extremely professional operation with a focus on fun! They are genuine in their consideration of the participants and go out of their way to make sure you have a great experience. The instruction is spot on and you feel like you are in a professional driving school. You can bet I will be there in October as well!!
A special thank you to Curt for making us feel welcome and Brian Daley and Bert Xander who were instumental in not only showing me the proper line etc. but actually doing excercises on track to show you exactly what each turn needs from you to make it around the track at the best way possible!!!
Mike, dude you have to go,you will feel the way you do when you get there, and when you leave you will kick youself for not diong it sooner! There is also beautiful Watkins Glen State park and tons of wineries to visit not to mention the waterfalls on the side of the roads that just shoe up while driving around.

Guys thanks for the kind words...... You'll never belive the cars that come and the huge smiles everyone has. Even at 6am at the track there are smiles.
From the 1986 CRX running fun laps to the Lambo Gallarado passing me on the sole of the boot fun can be had without hesitation. Think you're fast, come find out. My '87 stock with 18" wheels and I run ~2:30. I actually passed two cars over the two days, and was lapped by many, Mini and all...... Its fun when you're on the front straight and no one is behind you into turn one, then up to the top of the esses and you're giving signals to (3) Cayman interseries cars (Tag Heuer/Gulf/Martini) and a couple Z06 Vettes and an Ex Supercup 911 (997) that just showed up behind you. I hit maybe 125 on the back straight and they are well over 150.
I've been doing them for 10 years and running registration for 5, believe me I'm hooked
