Default electric tape question-high temp

I saw a post recently, but could not find it.
The 3M black electric tape that I have been using under the hood seems to get soft and stcky from under hood temperature.
I know some suppliers sell a tape which is supposed to handle heat better.
What type of tape is this? I am looking for something I can buy locally.

The only tape to use under the hood is X-treme tape. Good for temps of up to 400/500 degrees. Hard to find in local stores, but some stock it. It is a self adhesive tape, and is the best for electrical connections in the engine bay. It is also water proof - it is used in marine applications as well. some other self adhesive tapes are good to 300 or so degrees, so they are better than standard black elec tape.

They key is getting self vulcanizing / fusing tape. Home Depot carries it but kind of expensive compared to Grainger and McMaster.

I recently bought three rolls locally at Grainger:

McMaster:

It's tricky to use until you get the hang of it, no adhesive. You stretch it and it fuses to itself as you wrap it around. Once it "cures" it's a solid pice of silicone rubber you will have to cut off.

I need to find a wholesale supplier, I go through this stuff like candy, recently used to make a temp patch on some gutters

I think 928MS sells self vulcanizing tape. This is so it cures into one sort of like RTV so that it is not penetrable?

This is what to use. I haven't used electrical tape in quite a while.
You can find this at a NAPA store.

I use the liner less rubber tape but then I don't go anywhere near the high temp areas in the engine with it, just body stuff.

The orange silicon tape is the hi-temp type. I once experimented by wrapping my fuel rails with it during the summer. When the engine was nearly on fire, the rails were cool to the touch. I was shocked. I wrap my plug wires with it.

Is this orange silicon tape more heat resistant than the standard black version ?
Do you remember where it can be found ?
Thanks,
Craig

I stole mine from the Navy.

I've seen it on eBay.

Sounds like a very interesting idea to wrap the ignition wires.
