I don't drive fast any more - age does that to a guy. 70 - 75 mph at the most.
I don't burn rubber (accelerate fast) any more. I don't abuse the car; just use it for fun.
When you are '76 years old and on social security, tire price is important.
I found what appears to be a good deal on ebay for the front tires 225/50 - 16.
Since 245/45 - 16 appear to be scarce (maybe unavailable), what common size tire makes the most sense. As noted above performance is not really important but, of course, safety is.
Thanks all.

I bought Fuzion 245/45-16's last year. They are a copy of the Bridgestone, owned by Bridgestone. Not sure where they are made, but quality is great, wear is excellent. Some road noise, but not any worse than others.
Price is right, around &100 ea

I just found these--no idea of speed rating (haven't had coffee yet) or quality of brand but they are Nexens for the rear at $130 each:

Barney,
I've got a set of very nice D90 wheels with almost new tires from my totalled '90 GT sitting in my basement collecting dust. I'll make you a good deal on them if you're interested. The D90s on your '87 S4 would look very nice IMHO. Plus since I'm in Denver we could work out something for delivery. Let me know if you're interested...

You just missed out a great deal on these tires. The good news is when I had mine installed yesterday the guy at Discount Tire said the $100 rebate will be back next week.
Here is the deal,
www.discounttiredirect.com has a great deal on Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 tires.
225/50/16 tires are $99 x 4= $396 with free shipping
with $100 Visa card rebate for buying 4 tires (Starts next week)
Hankook $80 Mail-in Rebate (Ends June 30th)
$396-180= $216 shipped for 4 tires you will just need to pay for having them installed.

Hello theere in Denver:
Hopefully this coming year will be successful for both the Avs, the Rockies (not looking too good at the moment) and the Broncos.
Regarding the tires and wheels, it sounds like a pretty good deal. Are the tires with "almost new" tread? We primarily use the car for touring around southeast Wyoming and the tires that are currently on the car are getting kinda tired. As I noted in the start of this thread, we no longer put the kind of abuse on the car than when I may have been probably closer to your age. At 76 (close to 77) and on SS I no longer can afford the big numbers I hear thrown around on this site. Does $300 sound in the ball park. We would be happy to drive down for them.
Sure must have been painful to total such a nice car. I had a guy T-bone into my drivers rear quarter panel and after 22 years of driving without a scratch, I almost broke down and bawled. Had the car repainted completely and it looks like new. The guy just didn't see me; methinks he needed sharper glasses.
