I guess this depends on what the mechanic plans to to.
I would never worry about a TBF either, I would pull the cover and check it. Just sitting around worrying about it never saved an engine.
Maybe he was telling you not to worry because he already checked it and everything is ok.

I think you posted earlier that your torque tube was replaced at some point. Here is a good thread that covers this. If the torque tube was not properly installed, your engine could be more susceptible to TBF.

Your Indy is correct if your 87 S4 is a 5 speed.

Your mechanic has read the bulletin where Porsche claimed that improper trans intallation is the cause of TBF. It's one cause. I'll give him credit for reading the bulletin, although we know better and he should if he had seen very many late model automatic 928s.

Great advice
Thanks guys. I picked this car up in Nov and have managed to impress myself with ya'lls mechanical knowledge. I've changed the motor mounts, breaks all around, rear bearing, CV boot, steering rack boots, tie rod ends, power steering hoses, & heater control valve. I say that to say, I trust ya'lls opinion. I will definitely get it checked. I don't
Think this car has been driven hard. The PO didn't seem like an aggressive driver. But I know this car brings out the beast in ya. I plan on attempting the intake refresh & Will probably get the TB done by the Indy. I just don't understand the pics when they point to the tightness of the belts.
Thanks for ya'lls help.

If you are planning to do the intake yourself, you may as well do the timing belt et. al. yourself. The timing belt is NOT that hard of a job. I have done a few myself and helped on many others. If you can partner up with someone who has done a timing belt job before, you can knock it out in no time at all. If you can't partner up with someone, buy the step by step directions, or find Dwayne's write up.
