Okay not to be stupid but in the Driver and Passenger hatch pull switches it calls out a red wire +12V with a "(30)" what is the "(30)"

"30" is a common ISO designation for unswitched (always on) 12V from the battery. Generally, but NOT always, any solid red wire on the 928. You will see use of other designations for relay posts (85, 86, 87, 87a) and ignition switched power (15) and ground (31).

Yes, I know that, but I still needed a keyless entry system that could be configured to send a looooong pulse, rather than the .4s or so that's normally used to lock. Maybe it's a common feature, but this Avital is one of the few I found that posted their manual online so I could see, before buying it, that they support a 20s comfort close lock signal.

Regarding adding remote start in a 5-speed... sounds like it makes other people even more nervous than it makes me. I think I'll just do the keyless entry for now, and then look into adding a neutral verification switch array to the shift lever so remote start can be added safely.
I always park in netural, but I know that not everyone has that habit.

I always park in neutral too - but occasionally I have come back to the car and discovered that someone has broken in, put the car in gear and then locked the car again... why do they do that...
It is actually very hard to develop a truly reliable neutral safety switch for a manual shifter - I'd just forget about it.
So the Avital just has the long lock pulse? not any added window controller connection features...? From your description I was assuming you would be connecting up all kinds of additional window wiring - wanted to save you from that.
One thing I would like is a remote 2nd stage unlock that also opens the windows and sunroof to vent the car - I'd really like that and would use it a lot...

Let me ask another question. On the 90 S4 keyless entry diagram there are two alarm controls listed. For the hatch am I correct to understand that I can connect the hatch output to EITHER the pin 6 (BR/BL) on the Additional Alarm under the center console that also has the arm and disarm for the alarm OR the Pin A (BR/BL) on the module above the EZK?

I have never looked or tried but do our cars open the windows when you hold the key in unlock like my Jetta does?

Yeah mine closes sequentially. Just never tried to open them the same but opposite way.

Must be the same people who steal my wife's car from the parking structure and curb the rims. Nast bunch of people they are. Odd but get her a different car and they steal it too.

Here's a more complete list of these wiring codes as used by Bosch. You'll see them scattered around the wiring diagrams on the relays and some of the control boxes....

I'm thinking to mount two of these in the shifter box (http://www.partdeal.com/switches/spe...ll-switch.html) one fore and one aft with springs actuating them from the shifter lever. They're NO, so normal operation would be tension on both springs to close both switches (with shifter in neutral), and the two switches wired in series (one end of the series to Avital neutral sense, other end to ground).
Moving the shifter forward or back would release tension on one or the other spring, allowing its switch to open, and indicating out-of-neutral. Failure modes (broken spring, disconnected spring, bad switch, would also result in an out-of-neutral signal).
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Paul
