Default I bet you have not seen a sump like this...

A bit of a mistery... Porsche was trying to achieve something here, but it either did not work or they run out of time before it was implemented...

http://www.ebay.de/itm/PORSCHE-928-O...7#ht_500wt_922

It is interesting that the part is stamped with a 928 part number...

traslation:

They offer for an oil pan for the Porsche 928 models which is in an almost as good as new state.
The oil pan became only unites sometimes to test journeys / racing company mounted.

Would be interested to hear what Greg B has to say about it.

This is the second time it has come up for auction- same pictures each time.

We discussed this the last time it came up.

I'd be interested to see what Greg would say about it too!

odd design...seems like a poor scraper to me......I am 100% sure that this design will work WORSE than an S4 setup with GTS baffle.... There are NOT enough controls for oil starvation....there really isn't anything to keep G forces from forcing the oil up the walls......

The best oil pan design for 928's is the OB pan....but they only made it until 82....just don't ask Kibort about it.......

So how much are we betting for

Last time I inquired to buy just the baffle. The seller didn't want to (understandably). Porsche Classic didn't recognize it.

It is a scraper, poor or not, and shows that the Porsche engineers understood the engine failures they were seeing were to be due to excessive oil windage.

Control of the oil in the sump at the track is a different issue. The GTS baffle does nothing for that. It doesn't seal along the back so the oil rolls out.

And the issue isn't "up the walls" it's "back out of the sump."

Firstly, the pans are all the same.

Secondly, the cloverleaf does nothing to keep oil in the sump.

Race cars and weekend tracksters need to do one or more of these:

A) Use an Accusump
B) Have a full dry sump
C) Install an Ishihara-Johnson windage kit
D) Keep RPMs down

I'm on C and D.

That guy wants a lot of money for his museum piece. He'll get tired of looking at it and lower the price. Eventually.
