Porsche 928 starts out the racing season at Laguna Seca at the SCCA regional races
awesome weather for racing at world famous Laguna seca.
the porsche club is there in full force with about a 35 car field. Im racing with the ITE and V8 supercars. however, many of the pirelli cup car GT3's are running with us to maximize their track time and are running in our run group of group 3 which includes the unlimited classes.
great day! (or session) I got there after driving the race car to the track, got the guys in tech laughing at my program, and telling me they will probably have to change the rule book to include some time of db limits on my stereo!
anyway, went out on the hoosiers, qual only, and after only 1 lap, turned a 1:37 and that was slightly improved in later laps before calling it quits in qualifying. im stilll totally amazed how well this car handles and performs. ran against some of the GTC-3 cup cars in our group and i wonder if they are wondering how a car , 25 years old can still be only slightly slower.
race time is 11am tomorrow, so ill get back with some video and some pics tomorrow or monday if anyone wants to see some. Ill have the go pro cameras and the incar footage.

un-real race guys! Its what i got hooked doing with SCCA racing 10 years ago. 8-10 cars, all very close in time, all running nose to tail for the entire race! We ran the AV8SS series with the ITE group. I dont know if i was ITE or AV8SS, but i got 2nd in ITE, in a heated battle with my old racer comp, in the PTG'ish M3 and several Panos, subaru STI turbo, a couple of 500hp mustangs, turbo NSX and a few others, not to mention a few of the cup cars from pirelli cup/PCA race going on the same day.
Let me just say, that car still amazes me. I beat the snot out of this car for 30mins, not ever going less than 100% in every way. oil pressure perfect, no smoke, no miss, occassional redline shifts, and near 260F oil temps on a very warm Laguna race day. times were not that great due to being in a heated battle mostly the entire race, and then the DOT hoosier tires were a little old compared to the newer R100s many of the guys were using. The NSX and I , along with the BMW had a great battle the entire race. some opportunist Panos got in there as well as a couple of mustangs, to mix things up a bit. when the 3 of us got all clogged up going 3 wide into some corners , lapping traffic, the guys behind us took advantage and got in our mix, leaving the NSX to scoot ahead with his "push to pass" 650hp capability. however, there were several tmes when i was in 2nd in the class, that i didnt pounce when he got a lot loose, and almost lost it, due to not wanting to endanger our cars. however, that didnt stop the guys behind from shooting through and making our job of putting the NSX job a little harder! It was one of those races that left the entire group smiling! a ton of fun, should be some good video. I think there were about 10 cars from 1:37 to 1:39, so it was a great race day.
too bad the subaru couldnt make it out for the race as it got taken out by the superproduction leader in the first race in a pretty solid hit.
anyway, the problem is my video, its on 8mm, as my digital camera broke. but i have rear view cam from the go -Pro, so that should be good.
