'85-'86.5 Sharkvent Install Question?
I followed DR's instruction booklet for doing this mod; everything went together perfectly and looks great! Nice touch on the Porsche clamps and port plugs!
The problem I have is when I go to install the passenger side plenum, the four-way and 90° elbow in the plumbing won't allow the plenum to seat against the bottom third of the Torque rings I got from Ken. Even without the Tq rings in there I can't get it to seat without the weird tilt that I know will end up with a unmetered air leak:
How have the rest of the S3 owners dealt with this issue?

I'm not sure that he does by looking at the installation instructions DR mocked it up on an engine that was out of the car. In the pictures, he has put in the manual, the furthest it is assembled is just like my first pic, no plenums...
However if we can answer and solve the problem here, perhaps DR will be harassed just a bit less... and have more time for more fun things for us to buuy and install!!

If the vent hoses are pushing up the the side plenum then perhaps this is as good as it gets. If you clamp it really good, it shouldn't leak.

Hey Shane,
Man I don't miss my plenums...if you were to make the 2 short hoses coming off the cam cover longer, would you have room to move the fittings on the inside of the fuel rail?

Darien,
Yeah I miss my twinscrew too...
I've tried what you suggested but the four way fitting that ties the forward cam vent to the crank vent off the oil filler neck won't allow the plenum to drop level like it should.
When I made my own system for Helmut, I tied both filler neck ports together and fed them into the main hose after the cam cover vents, not nearly as elegant as what DR has put together, but works.
Dan,
This is to vent the cam cover and crankcase vapors to an external breather, thus removing the oil from the intake tract.

Here is my simple less elegant solution:
By using smaller hose and no clamps, small hose stretched over DR's fittings don't need no clamps, I got just enough, for me, clearance to mount the plenum with only a slight tilt, but good contact to PorKens' rings.
The biggest issue with the smaller hose is that it is a smaller hose and will vent less than the design DR came up with. I still have a large bore hose coming from the filler neck and from the T to the Provent is the same. Only needed to source another 2.5' of hose nothing else.

What are you doing with the two vents from the oil filler base?
Where did you route those? Because all of this seems useless if you let those vac into the intake J

Dam!
Does everyone powdercoat the central T, and not realize you need to go all the way to the end, because the rubber boot is not long enough!
I did the same thing! How come no one mentions that in their powder coating tips!
I spoke to the person on ebay who makes the aftermarket silicone boots.
She said she may be able to make one longer, which could fix that powdercoating situation.
Maybe slightly longer boots would fix the situation with the torque rings.

do you think this would happen if you did not have the torque rings?
Would aftermarket silicone intake boots be better?

No silicone boots would not fix this either.
I had the T done that way because I ordered new silicone boots that were longer than stock to cover shoulder to shoulder, only I ordered heavy wall hose and it won't fit, not enough gap between the pipes, you need thin wall hose.
