Don't get me wrong. Everybody knows I LOVE my 928. It has been a great car and I would hate to lose it. But the monetary value is so low, why insure it? Insurance, at least in concept, is to protect you from events you cannot afford by sharing the risk with a pool of people. If I had an Enzo, you can bet I would have it insured (I probably couldn't afford the insurance). But I've got a 23 year old car with 241K miles on it that I only paid $16K for 12 years ago. I love it, but it's hard for me to justify carrying collision insurance.

I don't know what Hagerty is doing! I do know they're destroying their reputation. We're not a big deal to Hagerty. The big deal is their bread-n-butter, the Hot Rodders, and Muscle Cars!!!!!
I've got Muscle Cars, and the collector car world is watchin this thread, and others.
To be honest I don't know if this has happened cause a woman is my adjuster, and not a car guy. I've never been treated like this in my life. Why is my 928 listed as up for bid before I had the chance to turn it down? And why did a fellow Rennlister have to be the one to inform me of what's going on?
I can only assume that Hagerty is not an honest company. I'm gonna run like the devil himself is on my ***, after this claim is settled!
Bottom Line: Hagerty was great, till I turned in a claim, and all Hagerty had to do was bill the other insurance company. Go Figure!

Hi PoleCat in Las Vegas,
FWIT: My do to list is contacting Hagerty & AAA to inquire on rates. I had a 74 Gulf Blue Carrera and 2000Rover Mini insured with them many moons ago. I was happy with the low rates but never filed a claim.
Based on the way you were treated I am glad I did not need to file a claim. I will not be contacting Hagerty. Part of my to do list is contacting AAA. I spoke with one of the sales rep. AAA now offers collector car insurance with agreed value. I learned about it from the brochure at the front desk of AAA
I am currently with Hartford. Had three claims all not my fault, thankfully
The experience has been pleasant with Hartford.
I am paying $475 for my GTS with an agreed value of 40k. This was done over the phone. I have not reviewed the policy. The rest of my cars are NOT worth covering for collision. Each one is worth less than 4k if I had to do a quick sale on CL. I share the thoughts of Bill on this one. I am more concerned of personal injury and medical bills from an accident. Hope this helps.
In closing I will scratch off calling Hagerty from my to do list.
Thank you
Steve

AAA does not offer classic car insurance themselves. I think they refer you down to one of the classic car insurance companies such as Hagerty. I was putting my car on classic car insurance last year and called them...

Everyone should square those two quotes. Re collision, It's not just Hag, You can't know how they will perform til you have a claim, but this example should be a red flag. And changing companies can be disasterous, pricewise. I've posted previously about a discussion I had with Hag and this only confirms I don't want what they are offering. YMMV.

Just a post to give my experience with "classic" car insurance:
I know nothing about Hagerty's, never having done business with them. I have 4 cars insured with American Collectors Insurance, all at agreed value, one Porsche, two Benzes and an Alfa. It seems to me their rates are very reasonable, my annual total premiums are ~$1200.
My reason for insuring these 4 cars with American Collectors relates back to when they were offering insurance for track driving. I insured my '88 928 S4 automatic with them. It had an agreed upon value (which was the basis for the annual premium), with a deductible of 20% of that value. In summer of 2004, I totaled that car at Mt. Tremblant track in Canada. There were some complications relating to it being totaled on a Friday afternoon, located in Canada and me being a US resident/owner/insuree, but these were worked out within about 5 days. At the end of that time, they offered me a check for 80% of the insured value, and offered me the car for about $1200 (stock engine alone was worth about $2.5K then). I took the offer to buy the car, and within another 3 days had a check from them for the 80% minus the $1200. A friend with a race trailer and I went back to Mt.Tremblant, to bring it "home" and within 10 days of totaling it, I was dismantling it and offering usable parts for sale.
All in all, I thought it was a very well handled transaction, and when my '94 GTS aged (and when I bought additional classics), I have insured them for street driving with American Collectors Insurance. If any one wants to investigate them as an insurer, it's: www.americancollectors.com . I have not had any need to file a claim with any of these 4 cars - just hope I get the same prompt and fair service if I ever have to!

PS: I see below that the settlement finally was agreed to by Hagerty. That's good. BUT - it took 5+ weeks from the time of the accident, with a lot of complications (for an event in NV/USA!). I am even happier with American Collectors now!!!

I talked with the adjuster, she said having the car up for bid was the only way they could get a salvage value estimate. I told her to email their price to me and I would make a decision, one way or the other.
I also told her to look at this thread, that maybe Hagerty should do some damage control.
FWIW, the police report stated that the other driver wasn't insured. I found out that he was insured, about a week later. I contacted Hagerty, because of the info on the report, and was assured that they would repair or pay the agreed value, and that I would have nothing to concern myself with.
Today I told the adjuster that I expected Hagerty to act as my advocate, and from the time my claim was filed, I've been treated like the enemy. All I got was silence. As another poster has pointed out, Hagerty's customer service isn't what it used to be, and that's why they changed carriers.

When Hagerty told me I could not drive my 928 to my mechanic -that I had to either own a tow rig/trailer or get it flatbedded every time- they dropped off my list entirely.

Hagerty agreed to pay me the agreed value, and I decided not to buy the car back from salvage.
I'm happy with the settlement. I hope that the car gets parted out, and not repaired, and put back on the road.

Sorry to hear about your car and dealings with Hagerty.
Glad in the end you are happy to bad it took so many headaches to get to that point.
Thanks for posting this though as a warning to others so some good will come out of it.
Good luck with your next purchase.
Maybe post the VIN if it hasn't been already so it will pop up in a search if someone finds it for sale one day.
