Late model Alternators...

If the voltage regulator is set to 13.7 will it not only bring the battery just up to 13.7 . I thought its cutout voltage was higher to produce recharging power up 14.whatever volts and then opened or stopped producing and closed when the battery charge dropped to or below 13.7 .

This kind of alternator (and most others) simply tries to maintain its set voltage as best it can unless it gets really hot - then it degrades some to protect the battery. If the RPMs are too low and the load too high it also will droop some.
It has no other smarts - it can't know anything else - it can't know how well charged the battery is - it can't know because there is simply no mechanism for it to know. It cannot distinguish between general accessory loads and battery recharge current.
You do not need your battery to be above 13.7v - it will never stay there anyway.

As my alternator as little problem charging when the temperature is warm, if I understand well it looks like a remote (variable) regulator is the way to go.
Do I need to remove the alternator to install this?
Any link(s) on this product and installation?
Many thanks.

Bertrand,
I got mine from Dave Barton http://www.davebarton.com/AdjustableVoltage.html
I assume there are probably other options - including all the way to making your own.
The extended tails (cut to size yourself) allow the neatest installs. Install options - put a grommet in the side of the cowl for this - OR feed the wires inside the alternator cowl feed.
I do recommend the driver front fender in front of the wheel. Installing this in the engine compartment defeats the primary purpose in our cars.

Duc, I did a Delco alt. on a late mount conversion. search for "alternator" under my username. I havent made any more brackets, but a couple people have asked, so if you are interested, I can reproduce them. The adapter I made bridges the gap between the Delco mount ears and our stock upper mount, allowing use of the stock lower mount, adjuster and belt, as well. Theres pic in the threaad...
PM me if you are interested..

http://www.alternatorparts.com/images/logo.png Quick start offers rectifiers for Bosch alternators but need Alan to tell which one would be best.
