I did not...but I'll go back and see if I can figure it out.

The process can't be impossible to duplicate. Both KS and Mahle know how....and I can't image them "sharing" information about pistons.....so I'm guessing that the specification is on some sort of a piston drawing, from Porsche.

The coating appears to be electrically deposited....and it is magnetic...so I assume it is some sort of iron plating.

The actual composition of the coating should be able to be determined, by analysis of the actual material, if necessary.

John and Greg

Harrop Engineering have been around since 1955, with motorsport and specialised engineering capabilities, and would be a good place to enquire .... https://www.harrop.com.au/precision-.../capabilities/

They did lots of one off hardened and coated race components for me years ago, and their capabilities are exponentially greater now. If they don't have the capability then they should know who does.

Thanks for the contact, Dave.

I've yet to see any "aftermarket" piston survive in the Alusil bore....regardless of what "aftermarket" coating people are spraying on it. I did hear rumors that a company in Austrailia could apply the correct iron coating to pistons (this is not a spray process), but I was not able to follow up on this rumor.

That means that for a stock bore, we are stuck with Porsche supplied pistons.

So, in terms of keeping the bore at 100mm that means you can choose a heavy S4/GT piston with a low pin....or a heavy GTS piston with a slightly higher pin.

Until you go to the 104mm 968 piston (which is remarkably light) you are pretty much stuck with pretty heavy pistons.

And I completely understand why, in a "boosted" application, that you might not want to go to a 104mm bore....
Shazbot.... that's not what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the response Greg. I think if you could come up with good lightwieght high pin Alusil pistons to go with your strong light crank & rods, oh that would be a big hit. Man we could really make some sweet power with a low boost stock configuration. I'm always afraid to take the rpms too high with the stock crank, and that's where the she really wants rip! Pun intended :-P

So let's say you could come up with some good pistons & rings, would you hazzard a guess as to the cost of the complete assembly?

Did an evening show 'n tell at Harrops not too long ago. Grandson of Ron is still there, but the operation is now owned by a bigger Co - also own Adrad radiators and some others. As well as showy accessories, they do some very high tech work - superchargers for Ford, Jaguar, finishing work for I think Eaton, and some aerospace work. Still do hot up work, like improving the brakes and supercharger on MB AMG 6.3 cars.
Cant hurt to try them for coatings.

Crank, rods, bearings, lightweight pins are about $7500...so whatever the pistons cost.
