Default "Uber Performance" 928 Crankshafts Are Here!

I finally have the first batch of my "Uber Performance" 928 crankshafts in hand.

Here's pictures of the 85.9mm (stock GTS stroke) crankshaft, along with some specifications that will interest all you technical guys.

* Made from a solid billet of vacuum formed 4340 US made steel.
* Triple heat treated at various stages of construction...not all at once, when the crankshaft is done.
* 6 "normal" counterweights with 2 additional "pro stock" counterweights.
* The 2 additonal counterweights add significant stiffness.
* The 2 additional counterweights add high rpm potential.
* Counterweights are "boat tailed" to reduce windage.
* Completely hollow rod journals at the front and rear throws.
* Center gun drilled reduces center mass and increases stiffness.
* "Reduced diameter" rod journals for reduced bearings speeds at high rpms.
* "Reduced diameter" rod journals for better rod bearing selection.
* The "latest" technology in high speed oiling.
* At 56.5 lbs, an incredible 6 pounds lighter than a stock GTS crankshaft!
* A full 50% stiffer than a stock GTS crankshaft.
* Fully balanced for a stock GTS pistons. my lightweight piston pins, and my matching Carrillo rods.
* Literally a "drop in" replacement for a high output GTS engine (with my matching rods)
* Great starting point for a "mini stroker" 2 valve 928 engine.
* Incredible crankshaft value at $3995. Matching Carrillo rods with SPS Carr Super High Performance rod bolts at $2395.

There's only one of the "GTS stroke" crankshafts left that isn't spoken for, in this first group. More will folllow.

I'll post pictures and specifications for the other new crankshafts I have available, as soon as I have time.

Drooooollllll.
I wonder if the wifes 20yr old toyota beater will last another 20 so I can afford one instead of replacing it?

Time to start saving.

Greg, I should know the answer, but I don't- can you Nikasil a stock block without having to bore it, so that you could run uncoated JE's with the cheaper ring packs? A set of new GTS piston rings ($1300ish) is almost as much as a set of 104mm JE pistons plus their rings ($1900-ish), so if JE could make 100 mm pistons for the same price as 104's, and the nikasiling without boring isn't too dear, that opens up any 5 liter block to becoming an 8000 rpm mini-stroker, not just GTS owners looking for an upgrade.

If you could:

Start with any S4 motor with decent bores
$1500 (?) Nikasil
$2000 100 mm JE pistons and rings
$4000 uber crank
$2500 uber rods
$2500 uber cams
$1000 uber springs
$500 light lifters

$14K plus elbow grease and a proper tune- $20K all in?

Sure...and more options than just that. Since they have to usually bore a block a bit to allow for the thickness of the Nicosil...they can bore it any size that you want to build a mini stroker. 100mm, 102mm, 104mm...all the same.

These cranks and rods open up an entire new realm of different screamer engines.

With the availability of more aggressive cams, an 8,000rpm mini stroker is suddenly possible...and practical.

Yup...that's the idea. Of course, using a lighter piston would require a minor rebalance...but it's a whole bunch easier to use "lighter" pieces than "heavier" ones.

Have JE make a slightly lower CR on the piston and add a touch of boost.
Different strokes for differnt folks!

Crank is beautiful! The know how you and a few other select few have on here blows me away.

That is so pretty it shouldn't be hidden way down in an engine block!
