Where does this hose go???
Hi, pulled the RF wheel liner yesterday to check the infamous Y-connectors and
sure enough it was broke - one piece now equals 4 pieces. This explains the fuel
smell from the front and particularly in the cabin when I have completely filled
the tank!
Anyway, I was poking around in there and noticed a loose hose coming off the top
section of the washer bottle. Not immediately apparent where it should be
connected. I have seen a pic showing it looping back and going somewhere in
behind the carbon canister but again not clear as to where it should be
connecting???
Any assist will be greatly appreciated before I fix/replace the Y-piece and
reinstall the liner.
Cheers

Wait a minute... I take back my comment. I was not aware the washer bottle had an overflow. Also, the overflows I've seen are rubber, and don't have the material jacket.
I change my comment to: I'm not sure! No help...

Simple; If you overfill the washertank, the liquid will come out this hose. (Overflow drain) But before this happens air will come out of the same hose as the air in the tank is replaced by the liquid during filling.
When you use the windshield washers, or the headlamp washers the pumps pump liquid out of the tank. This space need to be replaced by air, if not the tank would be sucked flat. So Air will be drawn into the tank through this hose. (Air vent)

Yep, I like to keep her pretty clean. The car is in very good condition for an 89'er.
Oh, and here is my old Y-connector. All three connectors broken and thus explains the very strong fuel smell especially when I fill the tank to full!
