Smog Pump Rebuild

I was able to source the bearings from:

Front bearing - 6203 RS - $2
Large rear roller bearing B188 $5
Small vane bearing (4) B65 $4 each
I have several smog pumps apart and have everything to rebuild them except a paper thin graphite gasket. The gasket is between the back bearing housing and the drum. I guess high temp material will do. Any one have suggestions on either sourcing the original gasket or finding material to make a gasket from?

Dan, are you replacing the vanes as well or just the bearings? I just put a used pump in my 84'and it is making a bit of noise. Not sure if it is bearing noise or something else. Pics of your process would be nice if you can get some.

Call me a cheap bugger but, when the best I could do was $36 locally to get a replacement filter for the smog pump I settled for less. About $32 less as I used a lawn mower filter. It was the same height and fit nicely on the bottom. I cut out the top of the rubber to make it similar to the original.

I have found some 0.005 titanium material for the gasket. I think it will work unless anyone has some serious issues with the idea I think this is what I will use to fabricate the gaskets. Certainly the temp specs are good.
In looking at all the units I have taken apart it is the front bearing that seems to fail. The rest of the pump seems to be fine. I guess changing the shaft bearings and rear bearing is worth considering, but I do not think these fail that often. When I get things cleaned up I will let you know. As far as the vanes I do not think it matters if they are worn a little. They all seem to brush the sides a little but not enough to worry about. I guess if a pump put out less air it is not going to matter much. The most important thing in my mind is the pump runs smooth.
Getting at the front bearing is a bit of fun. First the front hub has to be pressed off. You can use a bearing or a bearing separator. If you just press it off without a bearing separator you will break the case. I suspect just replacing the front bearing will revive most smog pumps. At $1.95 each that is a pretty cheap fix.
I have several but so far I cannot see the differences between the 78 and the later cars. I will have to look closer. The 80 US model did not come with a smog pump and instead just had an adjustable pulley.
