Default Why do you own a 928???

With the down economy "want" items have lost value accordingly.....so 928 values like any other "want" car have gone down..... It has me thinking......why do YOU own a 928.......

Do you own a 928 because it was THE dream car when you were young (er)?.....

Do you own a 928 because you love the modern performance-feel for yesterdays prices?

Do you own a 928 because you can?

Or your reason?

Well for now it was a bit of an opportunity for me to have a project. And it just happened to be a Porsche 928. But as I have been getting involved in the community and the car it is becoming a love affair very quickly.

Now if only money came in as fast as the parts list....

Fun project, easiest supercar you can own and work on. Parts aren't too obnoxiously priced (yet). Undervalued, entry price was cheap (free in my case). Now if only it would run...

In my case it's because it was THE dream car when I was young (er).
And still is...

It's better than sitting in a room by myself picking the scabs on my skin.

o Always wanted one as a kid
o Looks gorgeous
o Surprisingly practical former supercar
o Unexpectedly affordable given relative rarity
o Performance of a modern Aston with the license cost of an old Datsun

Well, the down economy is EXACTLY the reason that I decided to buy one when I did.

I am not sure why I ever picked an S4. To be damned honest with you, I always wanted a 911 widebody, as a kid. The 911 is my true dreamcar. Second to that, was the 944 Turbo, in Red with Fuchs wheels and black "script" turbo badges, alongside the 924GT. When the 928 became mainstream thanks to shows like Risky Business, Weird Science, etc., I personally thought the 928 was FUGLY. However, the design grew on me over the years, and I started yearning for an S3. I always thought of the 928 as "cutting edge" and ahead of its time, and it made up for the weird futuristic looks. Honestly, by the time the S4's came out, I was sort of out of that phase altogether, and never really looked twice at the S4's.

When I finally decided to take advantage of the bad economy and rock bottom 928 prices, and finally buy one, I have to admit.......I made an impulsive decision and bought a nice 5-speed S4. Honestly, a bad decision. The car has been fantastic, and has treated me great, as long as I throw her a little love every now and then. A truly great car that draws crowds and attention, everywhere. But, in the long run. Not what I really wanted. I still drool over a nice fat-*** Euro 928, or de-rub stripped S2 or S3. I may put her up for sale someday soon, and fortunately, I have a few standing offers to buy her.

Wow, you got the bare truth right out of me. LOL

It was the car I wanted to conceive my first child in...

(Just kidding, but that wouldn't be bad if she didn't mind a cracked dashboard and pod)

She's always been part of the family since I was very little. What was once by dad's is now mine Then when the time comes I'll pass it on down and the car will still get people staring.

I had been into Jaguars for a few years, including a V-12 S-Type, and wanted something different. Never really wanted a VW-based Porsche, and had never thought about any of the other Porsche models. I wanted something fast, with really good handling, quiet and comfortable. Bought an STS for my wife, wanted something just a bit sportier.

Had an S4 go by me in a parking lot one day, and was impressed by the quiet rumble, sorta liked the looks. Found a nice '86, then David came up with a real buy in a '90 GT, and got that.

I like everything about it - but I would not have a five-speed if I had to drive in Atlanta traffic every day...

As a kid I was star struck. There was a guy about 8 miles away with a red s4 that I thought was perfect. I was never hung up on the movie stuff, it was just a sexy car. Years go by and I really dismissed the car, kinda forgot the fever. Three or four years ago there was an '82 competition (maybe s) locally and I fell hard. That car sold very quickly to someone else thankfully. With the fever hotter than ever I searched high and low eventually finding my car about 5 hours away. I remember the first time I saw her, Greg (the PO and a friend now) drove her into the Walmart parking lot. I looked at my Dad and said " That's my car, I'm driving that home today!" The rest is history.

When I bought it I really loved the S3 look and the 5.0l, that hasn't changed at all. I love the S4 and GTS but My S3 is just perfect to look at. When I bought it I didn't even know where the oil filter was and now I love to work on her almost as much as driving her. I'm not afraid to undertake any procedures because I know this wonderful community will support me even if I'm a complete numbnut. I love to make her go faster but that just gives me an excuse to start a new project. I'm always looking for the next job to do. I know a bunch of more modern cars will smoke me in a race, but I got them beat just sitting in my garage. I'm going 200 mph with the engine off!

It's fun having something that is beautiful on the outside while being temperamental on the inside, and only after taking it for a ride do you forget about all the times you dream of pushing it off a cliff.

Remarkably similar to marriage!
