Why do you own a 928???

er- To see it shoot flames from under the hood...
...The car is inherited, Uncle lost his bout with lung cancer and left it to me. A constant reminder of the ole guy.
I'm sure it owns me by now, It allows me to see it when ever I open the garage door. Lovely sight.
Makes me what to go for a spin

I first saw photos of a 928 in 1977, and I said one day I will have one. Well it took me until 1987 to get one, but I still have it today. And of course I have so much money wrapped up in it, that I can never sell it. So when the day comes and I am gone, my son will have it.

Short answer for me is I've always loved sports cars. Got an RX7 when I first got out of college and just absolutely loved it.
In '99 I got a 968 and my wife was driving a Lexus. The 968 was fun, but I found myself liking things about each of our cars ... and realized a 928 would be like the best of both ... a sports car with great driving dynamics which can also be a nice cruiser.

I own a few really outrageous cars. My Pantera being the ultimate thrill ride!
I hadn't owned a Porsche since I traded my 71 911T, for the "Polecat." I always loved the looks of the 928, and bought my pawnshop special 3 years ago. At the time I knew nothing about the car or this forum. Both have changed my life!
I never belived it was possible, that a car could impact my life the way the 928 has. This community has rivaled my membership in the Angels. And the out pouring of condolences, prayers, and sympathy, since loosing our oldest son last Saturday, has been a true comfort to Dee & I.
I'm having to fight with the insurance company since my 87 was rear-ended, but no matter how it turns out, I'll always have a 928.

I was in to 1st gen RX-7's for years, owned close to 10 of them over the years. Sold my last GSL-SE with 60k on eBay a few years ago and turned that stack of cash into a nice VFR.
Last year a friend almost died in a motorcycle accident. Kind of shook me up, so I sold the VFR and started looking for another GSL-SE.
Then I noticed a 928 on kijiji, and just started looking at them casually. Went to drive my first one in early August last year and by September I had found my baby.
I have not missed the bike one bit, I have truly fallen for this car. And it's a bonus that I can take my kids out in it, could never do that on the bike.
A GT car just fits perfectly in my life now, fun to drive, comfortable and I can pack the kids in it.
Now I just need to get her back from the body shop.

Why? I drove mine to work and back today. A Carrera 4s followed me home most of the way. Waves exchanged at my exit. Got home, an hour went by.
I felt I needed more, filled her up, went back home, asked my neighbor if he wanted to go for a ride. He stopped waxing his truck, dropped his wax cloth, put the dog away and off we went.

I was always in love with the 993. I owned a 924 and a 968 over the years, while I loved the 968 the engine was just not inspiring. I had my eye on the 928 since I was in college, but I always lusted for a 993. I manage to fulfil my dream 12 years ago, eventually getting 2 993's. Still love these cars, they are so different in the way they drive and feel.
But life happened, economies came upside down and I had to make the decision to let go part of the dream and become more "sensible" . Besides I became a dad and both 993's gathered dust in the garage from not been driven. I needed something more practical, something "less" expensive to purchase and something I could daily drive as well as haul the kid when needed without compromise either in safety or space.
So thinking about it, it became a one way street. Sell the cabrio, sell the daily driver and combine into one, at the same time getting something other than an econo box. A used Cayenne was tempting, but I remembered the 928... Cut the long story short, I ended up importing from Japan what turned out to be a pretty special 928 from the exclusive program.
My first reaction to the gremlins, till everything was shorted out was some degree of remorse. Having said that daily driving it something happened that I did not anticipate. I fell in love with the 928!
Now I cant imagine daily driving anything else. The 928 was so far ahead of its years, its an amazing car to drive, a truly very special Porsche as only Porsche used to make them. Now I have 2 passions. The 993 and the 928. I need help

I own a 928 because I've been driving big SUV's and motorcycles for nearly 30 years. My last sports car was a 280z. My knees are going south, so I gave up regular motorcycle riding (knees don't like being folded past 90 degrees anymore, and sometimes a knee buckles and I don't want a hot motorcycle falling over on my leg). A few years ago, I went on vacation to visit my uncle. Rented a hot mustang. Enjoyed it. later, decided it was time to own a sports car again. While riding around, I noticed a 928 sitting in a used car lot selling for $10K, and realized I could now afford one of my dream cars.
And I do. It may not be new, but it's certainly not worn out at all, and drives just like the one I got to drive back in 1978 when one of the doctors I knew let me take his for a spin.
Oh, and I fit in it. Lots of new cars have so much crap pushed into them, I either can't unbolt the seat brackets to move it back far enough to be comfortable, or the console or door is too close to the steering wheel so my legs bump into them when I use the pedals.
Not in the 928.
The most comfortable car I've ever driven. The fastest, best handling car I've ever driven. The prettiest car I've ever driven.
'Nuff said!

Is peer pressure from other PCA club members a good enough reason? Seriously, it was just one of those "must own" cars. The looks, the performance, the sound...
