Anybody interested in an 85 auto for $3k?
It's near me, if anyone wants me to take a look at it.

I wouldn't go so far as saying "3k is the going rate for a S3", but if this car runs and drives sounds like it may be a good deal. Probably has rough paint and interior plus tons of deferred maintenance. But that is what this DIY group is all about!

Maybe it is just shedding...
As someone looking for an S3 - particularly the elusive 86.5 - I can tell you that 3k is the norm only for cars that are in fairly rough shape. Nice 85 - 86 cars are in the 8 - 10k range with really nice examples getting a little above 10k. Cars that don't need a ton - decent paint, the ubiquitous dash and pod cracks - seem to be in the $7k range.
I love the color and would like to know more, but my guess is that the paint is bad, the interior is shot and the mechanicals are all a huge question mark.

Its a 3k Porsche can't expect perfection... man some of you guys expect perfection for pennies on the dollar.
I wouldn't touch the paint or the interior. I would put about a grand in parts to get the service up to date and make it a great DD. DD's are suppose to look rough because they are driven! IMO opinion the paint looks respectable though!

I spoke with him just now. He thinks it needs a MAF sensor, not sure. been in the garage for a year. Raw gas is coming out of the exhaust pipe. Interior supposed to be ok, but the exterior has bondo repair that shows. Also said the paint is going. It has been in a few accidents...
My thought are it has lived a hard life......
I'll pass.
