Default 93 GTS 5spd

Greetings to 928 & RL enthusiast's,

Thought I would share a dream come true.
I finally acquired my first GTS. I once had a 88s4.

THANK YOU NICOLE FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE.

The GTS is a 93 in Polar Silver, 5spd w/ two tone gray interior.

VIN# WPOAA292XPS820148

Ownership of car confirms that I truly luv the GTS. I do see myself owning another one. And letting this one go. The current owner (me) has personal issues. I would rather be the gate keeper to a GTS with rub strips, yes rub strips, not a typo.

Before I start receiving hate mail please give me some credit. Unlike a child refusing to eat his veggie before even trying it. I have tried and truly know I prefer the rub strips, over the highly desirable rub strip delete optioned 928's.

In retrospect, I missed my opportunity to acquire Jim Morton's black/cashmere five speed GTS a few years back. It was only forty minutes from home.
His GTS is tastefully modded with rub strips.

....its a Live and Learn moment.

Realizing the rarity of a manual GTS. I cannot be too picky.

While I have my current GTS I do plan on enjoying it. Mileage is approaching the 100k. T-belt, H2o pump, suspension, brakes, clutch, PSD, and ancillary components have been recently serviced

Currently the most pressing issue is worn rear tires. This is the ideal time to powder coat the rims back to OEM state from the polished look.

Tire pressure monitor acts up randomly, unless I pressurized tires above 55lbs, which is not advisable

I rather install the 94~95 cup ( II ? ) wheels, but who has a set for sale that is true 928 cups?

Attending SITP2011 was educational. Those who viewed the car said it is "as original as it gets." I even learned about the identifying a well cared for GTS from the un-tampered decals, hoses, hoses clamps, radiator & pliable wiring harness with factory labels. Several suggested a good detail, wheels repainted to factory color, driver side seat bolster be mended, along with shifter booth replacement due wear on the leather ****.

I do plan on letting go or trading the car with a comparable GTS 5spd with rub strips. I am open to tastefully modded GTS's. I even like Chucks GTS
that he recently sold. It is the quintessential GTS brought to perfection ( IMO ).

And Chuck's GTS does not even have rub strips.

I would like to replace the insulated intake runners. The foam is deteriorating.
Upgrade to the 94~95GTS Wheels.
Figure out whats the best solution for the tire pressure monitoring system. Black tape is not an option for me.
I am sure I can think of others as time goes by.

Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
It helps me learn more about the marque.

THANK YOU!!! Bill for your help and advice.
I do hope to make it to SITP2012 assuming I can address the wheel & tire issue.

If anyone is willing to sell me set of 94~95GTS wheels please drop me a line.

Thank you for viewing my post.
Steve
Looking forward to acquiring
my other dream cars

Search the archives. There is a thread about disabling the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. It is just a jumper between two terminals.

Nice car you got there.
5 speed GTS are very unique 928s!
Not sure about selling it for another one with rub stips...
Regarding the RDK system, I would by-pass it.
With Cup II's, you will have to by-pass the RDK anyway.

What's the car on the lift on the third pic?
Looks like a S4 with aero mirrors.

Nice car ... Cup 1 & 2's were originally painted, not powder coated, so you just need to find a good wheel re-finisher to bring a set back to factory condition, or better.

I'm gonna say keep the Cup 1's. Just my opinion, but they were the best looking wheel fitted to a 928. Refinish them and don't worry about the RDK system.

I know of at less one person with genuine Porsche Cup 2 wheels and even if they were for sale you probably wouldn't like the price tag. Genuine Cup 1/2 wheels are expensive! Even more so for the 928 offset!

Steve,

Beautiful car. I'm sure you are going to love it.

Regarding cup II wheels. Yes, they original 7.5" et 65 front wheels are hard to find, but the rear 9" are readily available, as they are the same wheel that the 911's used.

For the front wheels, I have a very interesting option (These are what I use on my '94 GTS with Michelin PS2 tires).

I have one additional pair of Porsche OE cup II wheels in 8" X 17" with an offset of et 70 for sale. This give a 1/2" wider wheel, allowing 235 or 245 front tires, yet with the 70 mm offset, it keeps the centerline of the tire in the same place (well, 1 mm off) as that of the 7.5 et 65 wheel. Just balances the car for better handling with the wider front tire.

Send me a PM or e-mail if you are interested (e-mail and I'll return pictures).

These wheels are even MORE RARE than the 7.5's, but in my opinion a better option.

Gary Knox

Congrats, looks like a beautiful car! There were only 406 North American GTSs, so each one is a treasure!

Nice car and great color. You can always add the rubstrips rather than trade/sell the car. Mine doesn't have them listed as an option, but somewhere in its history they were added. I know, right? Go figure...

Steve.........your car and my new GTS could be cousins with same exterior colour and similar interior although my car has linen leather sports seats but also a 5 speed

Serial number is 815101.

I have a set of original cup 1's with RDK sensors form Scott Moore's 93 GTS. I had traded a nice single exhaust system for them.

Not sure what they are worth.
