Default Solid Rubber Motor Mounts

I just received a pair of the solid rubber motor mounts from one of our main vendors ( This is NOT about the Vendor) and upon installing them onto the X-member I noticed that one of the mounts is very soft.

I can push my thumb into the main section of the mount about 1/8" along with being able to grab the top mounted bolt and move it around.
The other mount is rock hard and I can not even begin to depress my thumb into the material let alone move the top mounted bolt.

My obvious thought on this is that the softer mount needs to be returned and replaced with another mount that is as hard as the other one.

Of course I will contact the vendor on Monday but I was wondering if this is normal and should I just go ahead and use the softer mount?

No, do not use the soft mount. We have found the Ford mounts come in solid, hydraulic and hydraulic missing the fluid (what I suspect you have). Unfortunatly the markings on the boxes is the same for both types so what you get is the luck of the draw.

Is that the anchor mount or the Volvo mount?

That looks identical to the ones I have on my shelf, which I thought were Volvo from Roger. Tiny difference in the size of that side protrusion, the molding marks and the shape of the top half. Maybe they aren't the same ones. Mine are very hard.

I ordered mine from my local jobber.I specified the anchor number 2698.When they arrived I shook them both .One you could hear the fluid in it and when put in a vise would actually compress. The other wise silent and did not compress.Same part number ,same box, same source ,different item.Sent hydraulic one back with clear-er instructions. 33.00 each Should fit your 85 no problem My 80 needed some brackets from Roger at 928'sR US

^^^^^^This and the OP's post are why we use the Volvo mounts.

I do not know what brand these mounts are. I should have asked when I purchased them.
Here is the box that they came in.

Jeff the Volvo mounts were the hydraulic same number and not rec.since they sag when used in the 928Thats why the solid ones.
Mako if those are solid and the same as on your car now your good to go. My 80 had the old style original. They worked fine but I felt the engine sat too close to the crossmember so figured they sagged. The new style Anchor 2698 according to Roger needed the heat shields so I ordered used ones from him.You probably already have the shields

UPDATE:

I just spoke with the vendor who was very apologetic and of course is sending out another mount to me today. This is just one of the many reasons why we are very fortunate to have great vendors.

I did find out that the mount is a Volvo liquid mount.

I have had the Volvo mounts in for two years now with no discernible sag.

Dunno if it means anything but looking up that Meyle part number shows hydraulic mount.

Yeah, and the reference number under the Meyle part number is the Volvo reference number.

That explains why it looks slightly different than mine and is soft. You say the other mount was not soft. Is it solid and does it look more like mine in the small differences?

Bill:
Both of my mounts are identical in size and both measured 86.88 mm in height.
I noticed that the top of my mount seems a bit more " bulbous" and maybe a bit wider at the top of the mount than the mount that you are showing. Mine measures 43.98 mm in width at the base ( just below the nut in your photo) of the top mounting bolt.

Everything is identical in my mounts aside from one being very soft and the other being very hard.

Well, let's see what you get as replacement.
