I have the RHD cowl covers in stock and at $53 they are relativly cheap. If you want to borrow one as a template let me know. Yours will be better and thicker I know.

Thanks you very much for the offer, Roger. However, since I already have at least two extra forms that I made for these for the LHD cars I can simply convert them to the opposite configuration for the RHD cars. The basic shape will be the same, so they will fit very well and all I will have to do is move the air intake opening on one of them to the other side and both the air vent and washer bottle openings on the other one to the other side. Everything else will remain the same.

To this point what I am finding is that the interest in these new Covers is mostly in the version I have made without the washer bottle opening. Those covers are intended for the GTS cars and everything else before the S4. I haven't counted exactly yet, but I think the ratio is about 3 to 1.

Jerry - that suprises me a little - your cover is clearly superior in every way and I'd think there must be many more S4's with washer bottles...

Folks this is really a superior product - if you need a new cowl cover - get this one!

BTW mine was with washer bottle - since I have one for rear washers...

Thanks for the plug, Alan. The reality is, I think, that the Cowl Cover is perhaps one of the least noticed aspects of the 928. If one is there it is fine. If it is in bad shape that is probably fine too because it doesn't seem to affect the funtion of the car. Even if it is not there it probably isn't noticed as being gone and then its absence also doesn't affect the function of the car, much.

I think it is going to be the case that you can get one now or you can get one later, or you can even do without one forever if you choose. $70 plus the S&H and the cost of the other items can in most cases be put to better apparent use somewhere else in the car. I am pretty sure these will be around when the need seems to arise.

I see that a lot of people have looked at this thread, but I also notice that several have missed it, but some have found it in a search. So, I thought I would bump it in case there is a bigger change in those watching this forum now from then than I might have expected.

These Cowl Covers are still very much available and have been going over very well with those whio have bought one.

Jerry, can you please confirm that you are able to ship a RHD version to fit an S4 with the intensive washer bottle?

I bought a Porsche unit some months ago and the quality is crap, your unit appears to be far more substantial. I'm in Melbourne Australia, let me know what the postage would likely be (assuming you have them in RHD)

Thanks, Dave, for your inquiry. Sorry I have taken so long to respond. Where I am with the conversion of two of my five total original forms to the RHD configuration is that I haven't yet decided which of the forms to convert.

However, given the surprising lack of interest in this product, it may not make a great deal of difference which ones I change to the opposite form. If the ratio of covers with the washer bottle cut-out to those without were to continue as it presently is, it looks like the market for the without version is about four times greater than with. What that means is that I should keep the two forms I have for without the hole and change one of the two that I have with. Then I can change the fifth form that is kind of oddball which is the one I tried to make to replicate the earliest version with the hole that appears to have been dropped early in 87.

I had five of the oddball versions formed, but have not shown pictures of them since they are not as close to the cover I was trying to replicate as I had hoped. Therefore, I think I'll change that one to the RHD version with the bottle cut-out, and then change one of the other bottle cut-out forms to RHD but without the boittle hole.

I may try to get to this later this summer since I am still busy with the WW Liner project. Watch this thread for some announcement about these Covers for RHD.

Thanks for your plug on this product. I'm glad you are pleased with it. I am going to take several of these to OCIC and hope that I don't have to bring any of them home. I took some to Spring Fling and sold enough for about 20 to 25 percent of the cars represented there.

I took several of my new LHD Cowl Covers to OCIC last weekend and put them out on a table for display. They didn't draw much attention until someone bought one on Saturday and then when I installed it it seemed to draw more attention The result was that I ended up selling several of them. I also installed most or all of what I sold.

An interesting thing I learned about these covers from the installation in several cars, ranging from 82 to GTS, as I recall, was that the only variation in fit was the result of the firewall metal that these fit over along the front edge may be deflected foreward to rearward in various amounts which change the fit. The back edge of mine is a very close fit to the metal cowl trim just below the windshied (where all the originals are not), but if the firewall sheet metal is deflected any foreward it will still cause a slight gap in the rear of the new Cowl Cover.

One car, an 82 as I recall, had the firewall deflected so far back as to make the cowl space a good half inch too narrow. What we did we simply pull the firewall back out to its intended position, mostly by laying over the engine itself and simply pulling on the firewall. It bends back foreward very easily and then the cowl cover fit fine.

A few others had the firewall slightly foreward, so I suggested that the owner later remove the new cowl cover and the with a board to something long enough to reach, simply gently push the firewall back a slight amount then the New cowl cover will fit as intended with the rear closed cell foam seal snug against the metal cowl trim piece.

Thanks to all those who bought one of these new covers. I am sure they will work out just great.

I still think this component in the 928 is one of the least noticed items on the car. Everyone who hasn't bought one of mine needs one of these, but I think it is going to be some time for everyone to realize it.

They are still $70 plus $20 S&H. The Shell Stickers that are period correct are $5 each with the cover and installed, and the Cowl Seal is still $15. These prices are likely to stay this way until the present supply is exhausted. Probably even after that.
