Thanks Ray. I'm surprised they got there to FL so quickly. I think we called the Shell Stickers correctly. I finally found my way to the 928 Registry and was able to see several Shell Stickers on cars in pictures that are also listed by SN. I am pretty sure now that the sticker changed from the one with solid yellow background to the one with the same part number but white background with MY 86. Yellow for 85 and white for 86.

I also found a second picture of a Shell Sticker that is much like the latest one with to 00 part number or the one with 02 which in found only on the late 93 GTS and later GTS, but smaller. (The early 93 GTS with Sn starting with 5 for the last four hanve the white sticker with the 00 part number.) The new one I found is quite a bit smaller than all the ones I have duplicated. I wonder if someone with such a small sticker could post a close-up picture of it, and with a ruler or tape measure displayed next to it for scale.

I think there is a picture of the small Shell Sticker earlier in this thread in a link posted to show the kind of cover someone has. I'll go back and see if I can find it and let you know which post it is in. I saw another one like it in the Registry and I think it is on a GTS.

Default Final fit of S4 Cowl Cover

I was a little dismayed last evening to learn that one of the guys who got his Cowl Coiver yesterday found that it did not seem to fin in the front. I had fit one of these in the prototype stage before I started this thread and posted pictures of it in the other thread. I had found that although the cover did not appear to exactly match the front sheet metal that the front slot goes over, with a little bit of push and with the flexibility in the plastic it fit very well.

This morning I installed one of the covers in one of my S4s and find that not only does it match perfectly but it fits perfectly. I suspect there is some variation in the sheet metal edge in the front of the cowl in all the cars that will explain the variations in fit, but I am expecting that my new Covers will fit all of them.

Here are a few pictures of the New Cowl Coiver, with stickers, and the new Cowl Seal, installed. Sorry, the last one is a little out of focus.

It used to be that when I posted a picture on this forum it would show up all at once and you didn't have to scroll all over the place to see it and and you could see all of it on the page at the same time. Then somehow that changed, and I can't figure out why or how. I wonder if there is something I could do the make it work the simple way again. Anyone know?

Resize your pictures to a smaller resolution prior to uploading.
This can even be done on the camera. 800x600 is the forum standard.

Btw they look awesome!

Thanks Colin. I went to 1600 by 1200 just before the last few, so I'll try the next resolution down next time. My next size down is 640 by 480. I hope the pictures are still good quality.

Default Low resolution pictures of Cowl Cover in place.

I took a couple of pictures at the lower resolution, but in the dark so they are flash pictures. Lets see how that works. Much better, I think.

I just want to say congrats to Jerry,he starts a project about 4 months ago and it seems he is done already. Thats kinda amazing in this day and age,and when you consider he does not have much for equipment it really is. Hey,Landseer this would have been a good one for your sons thing-a-ma-jig,Maybe? anyway kudos to Jerry.

Thanks, Ray. Your praise is probably more than I deserve, especially since I am a whole lot longer in trying to get the Wheel Well liners into production. Actually this project only took three months; and I have quite a bit of equipment to work with. I found a long time ago that the key to being able to make things is to have the tools. So, I have more tools and equipment than anyone else I know who in not full time in some kind of fabrication business.

On closer inspection in regard to the miniature Shell Sticker I mentioned above a bit, it looks more like a small version of the earliest Shell Sticker on the 928 from 78 to 82, the one with white background and yellow border and red printing in three lines and no part number. You can see it in Post #46 above in the link given by Matt Hermans about ther kind of setup he has for a Cowl Cover in his 87 with RHD.

I would like anyone who has one of these to post a picture of it with a ruler for scale. Even then, I suspect it is way too rare to be worth duplicating. Interesting, though.

Jerry - Got the seal Fri last week and the cowl cover & your seperate instructions yesterday. I have not installed yet - but first impressions:

Wow - the cowl cover is so much nicer than the stock one! - better texture, much more substantial and some nice improvements to the fine details while looking completely stock like!! - the seal & extension ribbing at the rear is a brilliant idea.

The main seal - in contrast my old completekly flattened stock seal - should actually perform a real sealing function...!

And thanks for all the blank material for the doubling - plenty enough. I was surprised how thick the blanks start off.

Folks this in not a replication of a factory part - it is quite clearly improved in materials and design and yet so factory like you'd be hard pressed to recognize the change. I honestly see no reason to buy a Porsche cowl cover any more - honestly I'd expect a concours judge to prefer this (...well - at least not notice).

WOW! Thanks Alan for that outstanding report. On the extra material I sent -- it is actually from the Wheel Well Liners that I have been forming in the final development stages of that project. The leftover material/trimmings from the Cowl Cover project I left at the Plastic shop for their recycle, so I didn't have any of that to send. Some of what I did send is, however formed out a little thinner that it started, probably about the same thickness as the C Covers start out.

Thanks again, Jerry Feather
