Water pump guide pin missing - is it required ?
Seem to have lost one of the guide pins while replacing the water pump, do I need this, will it leak without it ?

I had the same issue, used a wood dowel for alignment and to hold the gasket in place, and everything appears fine after 6 months. Others comment?

I would put one in,
a used shank of a drillbit can be used,
turn it down in the drill till it fits.
then cut it off with a dremel cutoff wheel.
the pins keep the pump from moving on its gasket,
it will move when the pump gets hot and the T belt is pulling it up,
thus loosening the belt, and possibly shearing the gasket

I suggest finding the size and ordering a box from McMaster-Carr. I did this for head guide pins. Surprisingly cheap and you'll have a lifetime supply.
