Default Rear passenger side marker light not working...

Thought I fixed my rear passenger side light problem last year, but... Just started the car for the first time this year and when I turn on the lights, rear passenger side marker light is not working. Any ideas? I guess the easiest would be to replace the bulb - how do I get the marker light out?

Thanks!

First, locate the two-prong wire harness connector for this light under the rear carpet. I have had problem with that being a bit too loose for one of my rear lights. Wiggle it to see if the light comes on, and if so, then fiddle with it to make it tighter.

If that's not it, you should be able to reach up into the rear fender area and feel the sidemarker assembly. There are two 8mm nuts that screw onto posts toward the ends of the of the assembly. Remove them and the brackets they retain and the sidemarker should fall in. Push off the rubber boot protecting the electrical connector, unfasten the wire spade connectors from the assembly and access the bulb under that.

Hmm, I have aftermarket wheels - I guess I'll need to remove the wheel first...

Harness connector - is it white colored one at the back, near tool box? I'll try to play with it later on today. If it does not work, what kind of bulb do I need (I know there a separate topic for this, but I tried starting to read it twice and still don't really understand which bulbs I need).

You should be able to reach up from the bottom without removing the wheel; but, I won't lie, it would be easier with the wheel off so you can see what you're doing. The bulb is a 5 watt, I believe 1156 base. I just converted it to LED and used a 67-R15: 15-LED BA15S bulb. (http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-b...specs%2F67.htm)

My light wasn't held in like Bill's with 2 x 8mm nuts. It was like the picture below with one nut on the clam looking thing (part #9). Once you get the rubber boot off and disconnect the 2 spades, the metal part that holds the bulb can be popped out, just be careful not to break the plastic.

On my 84, I had the same loose connector in the rear area near the tool box. Mine was kind of tucked up under the rear quarter cover and was a bitch to get to. Disconnected it, cleaned the contacts and was good to go.

Wing nuts!? Mine are all standard 8mm hex. You're right, PET shows wing nuts for the MY 89 that I have. I'm pretty sure none of my lights have been messed with except by me and I found hex nuts there.

Yes, that white plastic connector is a bit unreliable. I very slightly curved the pins so they would make better contact and it hasn't given me any trouble since.

You should be able to get a hand on those wing nuts from below. The rear fender is open inside.

Thanks guys, I got the light fix by playing around with a connector. Gotta love quick fixes... on to the next problem (in a new thread).

P.S. Seems like you can't access marker from the wheel area, at least on my car it's blocked off by a splash guard. So it's either wheel and splash guard off or maybe jacking up rear of the car and trying to the marker from underneath (not sure if its possible though).

Cheers!

hmmm... passenger(US) side usually is open except in later years. Driver side has a spash shield. Maybe I'm missing something on the passenger side.

Glad the connector trick worked and saved you some trouble.

Bill,

I've already fixed it and just out of curiosity tried to find the marker tried accessing driver side marker as I figured it will be the same on passenger side (car is parked in such a way, I'll need to move it to get good access to passenger side). My bad...

Changing the bulb in that marker light is not easy.
