Default Dealer smokes crack

15K for an early 86 with cloth interior. Gentry lane as a few loose marbles.

I bet they payed 3k for it on a trade in.

It's not even an 1986.5.

That's $16K American but 65K miles American, too. Unusual interior and it looks very nice.

Still overpriced. One can always ask. Note that the "Make Offer" option is given.

I'll offer $2000 USD see what happens. I doubt it was traded in for $3k. Not with that condition and mileage.

Yes, he does seem to be smoking some crack with his asking price. But hey - it got mentioned on rennlist so who knows?

You have to realize there is no market for these cars up here. I have a similar car, and it was traded in for 3.5k, I got it for 5 since the dealer was fed up with having it on the lot.

The same will happen with this car. There are currently several 928's for sale locally in the range of 4-6k that are of equal condition and S4's range 10-15k. Meaning, all original and will need at least 3-4k+++ to bring them back to reliability.

Average price for a clean 86 928S in Canada is $7475, that's retail. So the 3-4k range is accurate on a trade in for a clean car. But I would peg this car at fair condition $5550, since it will need much deferred maintenance and since it is obviously not a one owner.

Make an offer, if it works for both of you, great...if not go on to the next. Customers want the perception of a good deal, and the dealer needs to make a profit to stay in business. When you need to buy a part or a tricky service need the local mechanic cant figure out....its good to have a Porsche dealer around.

I'm just trolling the local cars for ****s and giggles.

But FYI this car is a 3 owner, stolen in 2007, accident rear side damage hit pole in 2007 and an inconsistent ODO warning from the MTO in 2010.

Hey, not all '86's have to have the .5 at the end to be great :P Just kidding.

I'll give them an offer for the left air intake tube and windshield glass (granted it has the antenna in it) O.o That's literally all I want from that car o.o

I thought the mileage didn't square with the bolster wear. 60k miles shouldn't put much wear on the bolster. Sounds like my $2k offer is pretty good right now.

Price is all about conditon. It's really easy to buy a $5,000 928, spend $10,000 on it, and still have a car that needs paint and interior work.

If it is an "exceptional" example, it's worth every penny of what they are asking.

To get anything close to the asking price in Southern Ontario, it would have to be garage queen. And it's surely not. And a non accident car, which it is not.

Also that mileage is not unusual arround here since most are only driven 6 months of the year. But as stated above the bolster wear is suspicious. As is the MTO mileage report.

No way it's worth anything close to that asking price.

But what about the cost of dealer prep? (laughing)

In Atlanta the Porsche/Audi dealer does a very good job of preparing used cars, getting them ready for the road, and investing some effort into fixing them. In Baton Rouge the Porsche/Audi dealer puts some Super Shine on the tires and vacuums the interior, then they mark it up $10,000.00 and call it "Certified." One of their "Certified" Audis had the dashboard falling apart (literally). The Atlanta dealer got me into Audi; the Baton Rouge dealership led me to sell all of our Audis.

In other words, you may be getting what you pay for. They may honor some work if you have an issue, they may have thrown $9k into it and are looking to make something back. You never know unless you ask.. There is always the 10% chance you found an honest car dealer.

I think that car has been for sale for a while. I watch 928s on ebay all the time and I know I have seen that car before. It is a good looking car though. He might just be using ebay for the advertising.
