Dear friends,

I encountered a very strange electrical issue.
Yesterday, I noticed that one of my H4 headlight-bulbs is faulty. So I assumed I just had to replace the H4-bulb.

Today, I drove again and during night fall I wanted to pop-up my headlight during
driving when suddenly the engine halted....
I tried several times and each time my headlights were activated, the engine stopped...

Once at home I removed the faulty bulb and problem was gone ?????


IS THIS POSSIBLE ??? CAN A SHORTCIRCUIT IN A BULB CAUSE ENGINE FAILURE (AS IF IT CAUSED A SHORT CIRCUIT IN THE BATTERY ????)

I am not sure what model year you have, but I had the same thing happen on my 1980 928. Whenever I turned on the main pop-up headlights, the engine would cut out. In my case it was fixed by replacing the headlight relay. I am not sure how it would cause the engine to die, but that's what happened to mine.

Indeed mine is also from 1980, a Euro model.... Probably relay is not fused which
causes a short circuit on the whole system...

my guess is a faulty ignition switch

..interesting thought about that ignition switch, because I can pull out
the key of the ignition lock and engine keeps on running.... can come in handy in cold winters :-) but never could forsee any other side effects...

How is this related to bad ignition switch ???
