I think it is far more important to find:

A. Premium without ethanol (getting harder to do every day)
B. A station where premium is popular

B is important because you may find a station where most customers buy low or mid-grade so the premium you are buying could be rather old.

You got a big piece of the pie in that statement. Gas has a shelf-life so the more turn-over = "newer" gas = good gas. The base stock is relatively equal across the board - the additives are what makes the biggest difference... And, Ethanol is the DEVIL... It attracts moisture (which is bad) turns to gel when it gets old (which is bad) is corrosive to certain plastic / rubber parts (which is bad) and doesnt burn worth a damn (results in poor mileage = BAD).

If you live near a lake see if the local station carries Non-Ehtanol gas - most do because boaters HATE it and will pay extra for it.. for all of the above reasons. Go the extra mile and pay the extra cash to get new/good gas - your car will love you for it...

I thought here in Fla they are required to have the 10% ethanol. Not sure that I've seen a station anywhere in the state in the past few years whose gas doesn't show 10% ethanol. On that note, I use Chevron 93 octane in the 928s & 968. If I'm traveling, I have a Shell card too. On the rare occasion that I have to use the regional Gate Petrolium(they are headquartered here) for premium, I keep lots of the Techron additive in the garage. I believe is was Doc Ed MD who said to me that Techron is one of the very few aftermarket additives or products that Porsche endorses for their cars. I do use Gate for regular 87 octane in my daily driver Ford Truck & it works fine.

pure-gas.org has a listing of gas stations ethanol free across all 50 states. There is an extensive list for Florida. I run on premium from Shell.

It's more important to use the right octane for your MY.

OK. I'll play along. My car has a CR of about 11:1 so I'm particular.

Either 93 octane premium (BP or Holiday stores) or the highest octane alcohol-free premium I can find PLUS race gas. The "non-oxy" fuel tends to be 91 octane. I figure our how much 110 race gas I need to add to get 95 to 96 octane.

So a 4:1 mix of non-oxy 91 premium to 110 leaded race gas is a typical fill. I run this most of the time, street and track.

I learned something new today. New Jersey does not have a requirement for gas stations to state whether or not they dispense E10. Also, from what I gather, it's impossible to find pure gasoline in the entire state.

And here I thought we had pure gasoline because there was no indication otherwise. No wonder I get lousy gas mileage with all my cars.

Just went to the pure-gas.org site. Six of the ten stations shown here in the Jacksonville area were marinas. Seems to mirror what was shown for around the state. Most also show as being "unbranded". There is one Gate station that I go to on occasion that shows as having non ethanol. They must have a special pump somewhere cause I have never seen it when I've been there. But I'll make sure I find it next time I stop by with my truck so I'll know.

I recently filled up with Sunoco 93 instead of Shell v power 93. I won't do that again as my car made a terrible racket after I shut her down after an hour drive. Think I bought some crappy gas. Should I consider dumping the gas? The car pinged for like five minutes. Never did that before or was it just spirited driving after sitting a week?

When I hear things like this..it just doesnt make _sense_ at all.

Im of the opinion, you have a station with the wrong fuel in the wrong tank or something more sinister..the trucks tend to deliver the HIGH grade and the LOW..with middle grades being a mixture dont at the pump.

Not saying you didnt have a problem..I believe ya.

When I lived in Linden, NJ near the Bayway refinery (used to be Exxon), I saw pretty much every different gasoline company's trucks coming out of the refinery. So, they're all using the same stuff. They just want you to believe it's different. So now I use whatever station goes through the stuff fastest, and had the most recently new tanks in the ground.

Allways run premium, usually Shell if available, otherwise closest or cheapest at the time:
