Pipes and through-bolts on my original '89 calipers are yellow cad. No paint. I think AO's thread shows his that way too. Looks like replacement calipers are all painted though.

Spraying is what I did, 2 pack, I bought the G2 kit but it is only good for a base coat, I then used a custom Glasurit color as a top coat with minimal hardener and set it off with heat, like an oven or heat lamps.

Those look really good. I like the look better with the pipes and bolts painted. As far as longevity waxing is important. Keeping a good coat of wax on them is a nice barrier to the harsh contaminants around the brake area.

I think that all the solid brake lines on a 928 are Cunifer or copper nickel. sort of looks like weathered yellow cad.

I have this job on my radar. I bought some Duplicolor metallic black for the project, but may go ahead and do the base coats in VHT caliper black, and follow with VHT hi-temp clear. I guess I'll be out shopping again today.
VHT coming from POLAPS? I don't remember seeing it at Pep Boys when I bought the Duplicolor cans there.

Definitely take the calipers off, I can't imagine the hassle of trying to do this with them on the car.
Its so simple a 10 yr old can do it.
I taped the bolts and cross overs in order to preserve the original look a bit for my '88 S4. I think they came out pretty good.
Also painted the rotor hats and edge while I was at it (off the car as well).

My calipers are now painted and turned out good. Next step is sneaking them in the oven after the wife goes to bed. I'll let you know how that turns out if I am still alive in the morning. I still need to clearcoat but am thinking about doing two cycles in the oven. One with just base and then another with them cleared. Anyone have a temp suggestion. I read anywhere from 200f all the way up to 375f. My plan now is to use 275f for an hour.

Looking good!
If you got any overspray on the pad retaining plates, when you put the pads back in you may get some resistance. If so, sand the overspray a bit so the pads can slide back towards the pistons.

Thanks for the tip I will watch for that. Hope to have everything installed by this weekend with my new wheels. One thing I would have done different is I would have cleaned up the lettering before I baked. It does seem to have made some very hard paint to remove.
