Another stereo thread
What a mess, PO installed a Panasonic cassette player, a bit of wiring needed to fix it. Apparently it runs through the (now non-functional) fader switch to the factory amp.
I will be replacing that unit with this one below, nice flat face and no fancy colors. Simple white face lighting.

Hi,
best of luck with your new install. I hate to say it, but that old install is pretty typical and your new one will probably look about the same. I forget what year the connectors became standardized, but that has never applied to any of my cars and yours as well.

Yeah, but mine will be a bit neater for sure. And fresh wiring ran to the point where the amp is/was located with correct wire colors..make it easier for future changes.

I have an aftermarket NAXA stereo which works well, but I dont think its wired to through the amplifier. When I was cleaning up all the wiring splices under the console I found two brown flat blade connectors ( one + / one - ) not plugged into anything. Are these for the amp...??
Thanks,
Joel

Brown wires are grounds, so if you are receiving signal to all speakers, I wouldn't worry about those wires. The factory amp is way underpowered and any modern stereo unit will provide good, quality sound.

Thanks for the info & your correct - no amp required. I'm plenty happy with the NAXA stereo (has CD & SD card hidden behind the drop down faceplate, MP3 & Flashdrive inputs on the faceplate, etc, with 400 watts / 4 channels). The best part was it only cost $100... I also have the same stereo installed in my boat. It puts out nice sound with plenty of power and is cheap enough to replace easily if it gets damaged. Electronics and boats are notoriously incompatible..

OK, here's another question regarding stereos...
I have a 90 GT with not the original stereo. I happen to have 2 Blaupunkt Bremen SQR46s, and I want to put one in the car. I really like this radio. And, you see a lot of 928s in Europe that were fitted factory with this unit. I'm interested to keep the car with as few as mods as possible.
Now, this thread got me thinking, do all late 928s have a seperate amplifier or was this an option? If so, I'll need to use the pre-amp out then on this unit.
Thanks for any inputs!!
Cheers, JP

See the diagram below, go to page 17 of this PDF.
It appears you do have amp (booster) in yours.
