Default Timing belt change?

Hello all !
I'm considering to change timing belt (my car has 80.000km) to avoid disaster I can wait more time or it's better to change now? i don' have any problem but the car was stopped in garage for many many time..

I read that it's always better to change also water pump, the tensioner boot, and the two roller. Right?

Look this : http://www.ebay.com/itm/120667741822...WAX:IT&vxp=mtr

it's very affordable price, what do you think?

and this : http://www.ebay.com/itm/190358652091...WAX:IT&vxp=mtr

How much cost indicatively to fit on the car??

Suggests??

THANKKKKS !

Don't bother with the old tensioner and rollers, just call Roger and get a porkensioner, gates belt and a new laso pump.

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...t-edition.html

Or source the pump locally to save a bit on shipping.

Replace belt, water pump (plastic impeller), tensioner with a PK Tensioner. Check your timing gears for wear and replace if worn (expensive), check crank gear and oil pump gear as well. Replace as needed.
Call Roger at 928sRus for prices. Going to be more than $1000 if you need new gears.

Do not use those pumps from E-bay, not only are they cheap, but they are crap quality.

+928!

Except I'd for sure foot the bill for shipping to Roger for the pump. That way you are assured the latest and greatest Laso with the plastic impeller.

If it's a low compression 16V, and the pump isn't leaking, only change the belt.

I agree with SeanR...get a new Laso pump from Roger at 928's R Us! http://s287999742.e-shop.info/ or 817-430-2688. I don't know about the rest of you but I never like to see a timing belt in a 928 or a 944 for any longer than 50,000 miles or five years! The risk is just too great and too expensive! Plus, I've done several leaking water pumps within a year of someone else having done the t-belt and NOT the pump. Why go in that far and NOT replace the pump? And, if you see any oil leaks, why not replace that seal(s)? I also highly recommend the Porkensioner from Roger and a Gates belt! I haven't done a belt w/o the Porkensioner in several years.

ROME, Italy! My favorite city in the entire world! What part of Rome are you in?

Call me an alarmist but, a good rule of thumb for 928's & 944's: If you don't KNOW when the belt was replaced last...just replace it!!! And in the case of your car being stored for so long, I wouldn't even start it.

Under no circumstance would I utilize ebay (china) pump or rebuilt pump.

Research a bit more and the reason will be clear.

Only Porsche New as from dealer, else Laso new as from 928s R Us.

Tensioner rebuild is easy - my choice.

Hello all and many thanks for reply!
I have a manual 1990 GT with 80.000Km. I drive the care very few days/year.

Ok for the Laso water pump (i want to be secure), PK tensioner and Gates timing belt from 928rus.
I see on 928rus this items but i don't understand difference between the PK tensioner with and without air pump.. ?? What's the air pump? And so... They offer the PK tensioner also in KIT (the kit contain also the roller? i don't see... because the cost difference between 'tensioner' and 'KIT tensioner' it's not few $$).

Look also this : http://jenniskens.livedsl.nl/Technic...ingFailure.htm
I read about this problem affected mainly on the automatic... Can be checked this? And in case, how to fix / and/or prevent??

For porschevert : I'm on the large street between the city and the sea called Cristoforo Colombo, near Ostia. Do you know??

I will discard china pump, better than have problem after and dismantle engine two times !

Frankje,

With the air pump ... if you still have the stock catalytic converters on your car, then there is an airpump on the passenger side of the car that feeds air to the catalytic converters. That would be the "with air pump" option.

On the other hand, if the car does not have factory catalytic converters or they have been replaced with after market catalytic converters that do not require air to be injected to the catalytic converters, then you would need the "without air pump" option. It is a quick check on the car. The air pump, if you have one, would sit mirror reflection from where the alternator is (alternator drivers side low - air pump sitting passenger side low - all based on a left hand drive car)

Here is a link from Rob Edwards that may be of some use to you as you proceed with the PorKensioner Installation

Nice car you have - 90GT.

Good luck
Glenn

TBF can be checked easily with basic tools, and a dial indicator and base. You must drop the exhaust the first time, but on subsequent checks, it won't be necessary if you leave the two bolts off the flywheel cover that cant be removed with the exhaust in place. The manual transmissions are not normally a serious risk of TBF like the automatics. But when TBF does occur on a manual, it is usually damage to the rearward motion of the crank, and I believe it occurs when there is a problem with the clutch assembly. You probably don't have to worry about it, but I would check the crank endplay anyways seeing you have a rare GT.

Use the China water pump as a door stop. Laso plastic impeller and Porkensioner is definitely the way to go.

Great help ! I will do how you suggest. I only must find an affordable mechanic here in Rome that have experience on this car and that is .....' honest'. Here when you talk about a Porsche all double the price of repairs and spare parts....... that's incredible.
