Sorry, if you are picky, the reds are not close.

I have owned cars in both colors. In photos, the reds can look similar, but if you parked the cars next to each other, the tints are basically different.

The late eighties Gaurds Red tends to be less orange tint than BMW Brilliant Red. IMHO, both of these reds tend to not age well with Guards Red trending tomato and Brilliant Red loosing it's depth and getting a little hazed (chauky). As we know, Porsche kept refining Guards Red, ulimately taking it to base/clear where BMW only used Brilliant Red for a few years, letting it go to Mugello Red (early E36 M3) as well as Hell (Bright) Red.

A freind of mine who is doing a V8 motor swap with a BMW wagon has chosen BMW Brilliant Red as his choice of red. Seeing his work in progress reminded me of how bright red Brilliant Red is. It's LOUD !

Hope this info helps.

Jim,
Thats exactly the info I was after, and what a weird coincidence too, as I am considering
starting another project that is a V8 engine swap into a BMW conv, (Brilliant Red)
I was trying to see if the Porsche Cashmere leather color would look the same as it does
with the Gaurds red/Cashmere combo & a blk Hartz cloth top .. anyway,
Thanks for the clarification & I'd love to see your friend project !

I've seen brilliant red cars with tan leather, it's OK. IMO, Cinnabar Red is much better with striaght tan interior.

If you two tone the interior, tan/black, the Brilliant Red much be cool.

btw, my friend's project is an E39 wagon being swapped to M5 drivetrain/bodywork. Next time I drop by his shop, I will try and snap a few pix.
