The only piston coating which seem to work 100% good in an Alusil bore is the Mahle Ferrocoating as used on the stock pistons. The optimum is to have the cylinders Nikasil coated or sleeved which make it possible to run any custom made uncoated pistons.

Running an "exchanged", undersize (0.25mm) GTS crank supplied by Porsche AG last year. I am using Porsche bearings, which came in the box with the crank. Made in 1995, still with DM prices on them.

No one would Nikasil the bores in the UK. It was not possible to sleeve the cylinders as they are already sleeved by Porsche

If JE have a coqting that is great but I don't think it is all that complex.
It was JE who raised the issue of coating the pistons, not me - I was "checking" on them, wanting to make sure they knew what they were talking about. They see alusil and locasil a lot.

Correct

This is not hard chrome, but something else. I have not got the box, with the invoice, which had the name of the coating, but it was black... JE were adamant that it would work in alusil bores. They were also aware of the need for tapered rings, without me telling them anything.

Now, what do you think about this...

This is the Kolbenschmidt piston which came out of my GTS factory-sleeved motor. Ignore the damage to the skirt caused by lack of oil...

It does not look coated, does it?

And here is a picture of the liners. They are alusil as they are easily scratched with a screwdriver as per the Kolbenschmidt instructions. Yet, the pistons run without issues for 20k miles...

Yes it does, whole piston is same dull color and coated. Though it doesn't look like normal GTS piston but I would say its coated same way as all other factory pistons I have seen.

Alex, Post 21 - square clips properly attached to top of fuel injector nozzles??? Looks like there is a groove near the top of the injector that the clip is meant to engage??

All good - the injectors have three groves and the middle one is engaged properly.

I took this two days ago... Please excuse the crap quality - Apple sometimes make good products. The iPhone 3GS is not one of them...

Yeah, she idles like a ***** cat - nice and stable. Throttle response is out of this world - it just picks up like a F1 car. Next we are going on a dyno, experimenting with different horn lengths. It would be interesting to see what she makes with the original M5 long horns vs. the custom shorter ones I got made a while ago. It was nice to see her start on the button after 2 years of hibernation and settle down into a super smooth idle at around 900rpm. Good work on the cams, Colin!

Very nice. Is using KFC as an assembly lube a secret trick of Porsche engine builders?

Nah, I had to rearange my Photobucket account and lost all the links...

As to you taking the rest of the field on in the UK on your own - Mark, you are doing a mighty fine job! And you have been quiet about it! Congrats on winning the Deutsche Marque and coming 2nd at Combe in the Future Classics!!! See, you don't need me at all...

In reality, I want to drive the frikking thing so bad, that I may end up buying another GTS 5spd, just to be in a 928 again...

Btw, do you know where I can find a pair of brake ducts like the ones fitted to 964RSs and 993RS?

we sell the brake ducts for 993 and 964, i think they are 75 pounds a pair, ill ask my dad monday if you still need them
