I thought I should start a new thread after the tool thread to replace the RDK sensors in the wheels.
My rear tires end up being bald in the middle and still a little life left on the edges. This would mean to me that the tires are overinflated.
The Porsche recommended infaltion pressure is 36psi front & 44psi rears. This is what I run to keep the dash idiot light happy.
I read before that (wally's advice) that the car reacts and handles better with 36 psi all around.
So the question is can you take the front pressure sensors and install them into the rear wheels thereby reducing the rear required pressure?
I run standard size tires on standard 16" D90 wheels.

44 PSI sounds WAY to high to me, when hot I'll bet they are nearing 50!

Yes you can -though defeating the system and replacing with a modern wireless programmable system might be better ( & perhaps cheaper). You can get a stem mount concurrent all 4 wheel pressure or temp readout system for a few hunded bucks - set your own alert thresholds for pressure & temp per tire.

Alan, defeating the RDK system is just not true to the car. I want to keep it as stock as possible.
Also I read that if you defeat the RDK system by putting in the jumper, that also bypasses the antilock braking system or diagnostics.

It de-features the RDK diagnostics but has no effect on the ABS/PSD.

It depends - '94 & '95 GTS cars don't have it - so Porsche were the ones who evolved it away...

It is just a question of time before you will by-pass the system anyway as you won't find tires for the rear pretty soon and will need to upgrade to 17", 18" or 19".
... Unless you put 245/50/16. Some does but not sure if I would...
Most of the 1994 and all 1995 GTSs didn't have it anyway!

@ Bertrand: Goodrich is introducing a Potenza tire that fits our cars rears later this spring. This info is from he Goodrich rep at Porsche Palooza last November... They already have a size that fits the fronts...

The sensors don't know (or care) at which end of the car they're installed. The issue is finding an additional quartet of 2.5 bar sensors.

My 90 S4 I have had for 11years and is my daily driver with 118k+ has working RDK sensors. Seem up be original. I hope I did not jinx myself.

I have a set of my original manhole cover wheels that I just replaced with D90 wheels. So I have one spare set.
I also will be picking up a set of the cup wheels 17" this weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed that the sensors work on those.

None of my sensors work, PITA. I think you're in the minority if you have a normally functioning system.

The system on my GT has always worked perfectly. I don't keep the tires inflated to 36/44, so I get the warning every 25 miles or whatever the increment is. As little as it gets driven, it hasn't been worth it to jumper the connector.

Rob - I think the warning is just a 15-20 minute time interval.

You can always buy new sensors - 2 per wheel at about $500 each last time I looked....
