GT Cam Damage - Endless Spending
#46
The one who sold a bad engine was "formerly owned by ErnestSw. " It was just in a car at the time. It was and is a running engine with worn camshafts which is just about every GT out there with original cams. But until you pull the covers no one knows and the car runs just fine.
When you are dealing with 20 year old engines or cars it is always a risk. Larry did not get a good engine when he bought the car does he deserve a refund too ?

How about put in the GTS cams and run it ! Just did not seem fair to make Larry the bad guy when he had no knowledge that the cams were worn. The motor would still run just fine with those cams maybe not for a long time but it is a common problem well documented on this forum. GT motors eat cams.

If Larry somehow didn't pull through here, i would build my GTS motor and in fact take a total loss on the now S4 motor because it is the same amount of work.
This is the whole point. I went and found an excellent motor from someone I could trust. I wanted to drop it in and drive my car.

Use oil with the proper amounts of ZDDP (zinc).

You mean don't use oil that is too thin for a 928 engine... when a 928's lifters are rattling in a fully warmed up engine at idle because of insufficient oil pressure, what do you think is happening to the cams?

There is no mystery Folks... And GT cams don't self-destruct. This motor was not treated right. No just my opinion. Spoke with a number of well-known experts here. People who have built here engines and know GT's and normal wear.

Unless otherwise stated/agreed to it is the buyers responsibility to ensure they are getting what they paid for.
An example is 928intl, they offer a warranty, and you pay accordingly.
For $5500 you could have gotten an S4 motor from Mark, got a set of bigger than GT cams brand new, along with valve springs. You would not have had to worry about anything then.
If Larry does something about this then he is a stand up guy, but he should not be held accountable for you not doing your own due diligence.

Since Heinrich has decided to take this matter to the forum and imply that I need to "do right" by him and those others with similar thoughts, including the moron known as Randy V, who thinks I need to take care of Heinrich somehow or I'll be in line for a "Douche of the Year Award" (BTW Randy V - FU!), here are my latest thoughts on the subject:
If Heinrich had asked for a warranty, I would not have sold him the motor. End of story.
To all of you who think buying used car parts from a member of some forum you belong to entitles you to an implied warranty, GROW UP! It doesn't.
If I recall correctly, Heinrich was advised by Greg Brown to go a different direction with his GTS. But he didn't take that advise.
Heinrich says he has now found information in previous posts by Ernest SW that might hint at problems with the internals of the motor. He should have done that search prior to buying the motor. He knew who the PO was.
He also says he just now opened up the cam covers to discover the problem. Honestly don't recall when I sold him the motor, but it wasn't last week.
I recently blew a motor due to advise from Comp Cams that said you could cut the heads a certain way and found out you couldn't. $10k for a rebuild. Comp Cams acted like I was from outer space when I suggested that they pony up for the replacement.
Am I sorry Heinrich is having this problem.? Absolutely. However, I won't be assisting in the fix.
