Which tire, Conti or Mich, or other? and Rim Protectors
So I ordered a set of Continental Extreme Contact DW today, now I can probably call the shop first thing and change them if I want.
The main reason I'm having second thoughts is the lack of a rim protector but then neither does the Michelin PS2. Now I don't intend on curbing the wheel, but my new to me speed lines have a very thick lip and I just had them refinished and don't want to do it again. But then I got thinking how much I liked my Pilot Sports on my VFR, I know different tire all together, but it made me really like Michelin.
Questions:
1: I know the PS2 has as stiffer side wall that will transmit road feel better and offer better handing over the DW, but I like the DW for it's ride qualities. So what would you choose? Spirited to daily driving.
2: Are there any options in a 225/45/17 & 255/40/17 that offer rim protectors, only one I can find is a Sumitumo HTR ZII.
3: Anyone heard of alloy gator, rim blade etc, any experience?

My Bridgestone RE760 Sports have a rim protector, and I have run them for 2 years and they have been good tires. I got them at Simply Tire in Toronto for a good price.
What happened to your idea of 275 rears??

How effective a rim protector is also depends on the relative width of the tire and rim. plenty of ricers out there with stupid wide wheels and narrower tires - you've all seen that look (all rim no tire),
The opporite holds too - go with as wide a tire as you can just within wheel width spec and it will push the protector bead further out from the rim. Then drive more carefully...
PS2's are a better drivers tire here - prob expensive for wear. Can easily fit a 275/40 & 235/45 on a GTS no mods...

I put Conti Extreme Contact DWS on my '83, but have not driven enough to comment.

The PS2's are 1470 vs 830 for the conti's. Plus I hear the conti's are quieter. Going to stay with them as they match my driving style a litlle better and will not wear out as fast as the PS2's.
Thanks for your help.

I just put a pair on the rear wheels of my E55. No complaints in the first three hundred miles or so of rain and sunny weather. When my fronts wear low, I'll put PSSes on the front as well, and get a better idea of the whole package.
