Hanson Car Stroker ITB Air Box
I have been getting e-mails looking for pics of the ITB airbox I made for the Hanson car. I'm getting ready to synch the throttles so i had to remove the box so I figured I would snap some pics and post. Basically the airbox is bolted to the throttle bodies via flat head screws through a plate with a stud protruding in the opposite direction.Pins ar pressed in said plate to locate the horns over the ports and a 2 forked plate slides over the flanges of the horns and a 1/4-20 self locking nut tightens the plate down to the horns.

That car is like an old friend to me ... I
ve sat in it, and most of its interior went into my Godzilla ... Watched it grow from a gorgeous stock GT into a GT with a roll cage; and from there into a stroker and race car ... seen rebuilds.... THank you for restoring it so beautifully, Ed

No MAF. The car is running Motec M48 and uses a TPS for load and MAP secondary.Same setup Louie Ott and Mike Simard use.Louie runs a different engine management system but Mike uses Motec also.
I had a bunch of things to do after last dyno session was cut short from a POS mini starter that destroyed the starter ring as well. So now it's all together again and I have to re-synch the throttles and re-adjust cams and I should be good to go again. I'm looking to be there in the next 3 weeks.

Beautiful functional craftsmanship, thank you very much for sharing these pictures (I am rather sure that - like me - many here read and view all information available around well build ITB's and their airboxes + well build stroker engines).

First thanks for sharing.
I could not quite tell from the photos,
but it looks like you have cut the firewall into the heater box / wiper area, is this correct?
How is the box sealed around the ITB and also the top lid?

So you borrowed space from the cowl area between bulkhead & firewall for the filter flare - air just comes in through the wiper gap? How do you keep water out - just a drain straight down underheath the airbox entry? I like the simplicity of the airpath.
Doesn't the airbox plenum need some internal tie supports to stop the lid bowing - or is it ribbed somehow? rubber seal around the box?
Are you going to reconfigure the fender brace? - seems you don't need as much clearance as originally planned..?
Great looking job - I imagine tons of work into it

Very nice......one thing I noticed is that cylinder 1-5 air horns look VERY close to the top of the airbox...maybe its just the camera angle.....but you don't want to end up like the S4 intake where is chokes airflow to a couple cylinders...

Thanks all! I didn't want to go to the dyno with the chicken wire foam things that were there originally and wanted something that would be as close to final result. The air is comming in from the base of the windshield when the small cowl piece is opened up there should be enough of an opening to allow enogh volume. I cut into the old evaporator area of the cowl since all that was gone.Although it's not all done yet the design is to separate the cowl area and the airbox intake are so all the air entering is funneled into the inlet and doesn't fill up the hollow cowl space left over. there is a deflector for water to roll off to the sides and down a drain hole in the bottom of the cowl area.
Right now the breather setup is both valve covers are plumbed to a catch can and oil fill hose also. I have been fabricating a dry sump pan and when thats done will scavange through the dry sump system.
The base of the airbox has 8 holes cut to match the bore size with gaskets to seal the box to the throttles and a gasket on the cover. As of now the lid has no bracing but if during the dyno pulls it becomes an issue I will remake the cover with some X bends in the top.
Engine brace is on the list as I get closer to finishing up.I also have to modify the water crossover for a more permanent installation.
The 1 & 5 horns are closer and may be an issue. If need be there is a tad more room to go up but not much.Now that it's all together I have it all on cad so making changes and pumping out more will get easier.

Question, don't you tune the engine for HP/TQ curves at different RPM ranges with intake lengths?
Asking since it seems the intakes are now set at a certain length so no way to tune the engine anymore with them.
Hope my question makes sense. Always wondered about that with ITB setups.
