Default Navigation intall assistance needed.

Hello all,

I have already posted a question about the speed sensor and have recieved a very quick and thourough response (Thank you Allan!).
However, as i get a little deeper into the pre planning I also need some help tapping into the break lights or parking break and illumination control. I searched the forum and saw some ideas but I am a novice and would greatly appreciate some more detailed directions on locations and wire colors (pictures if you got em).

Thanks in advance for all of your continued support.

Why would you need to tap into speed sensors?
Things like a Garmin do not need that.
Just wondering.

I am installing an integrated unit and from what i understand the speed sensor helps improve the accuracy significantly.

UPDATE (regarding illumination):
I have read that many are tapping into the cigarette lighter curtesy light. Is that a reliable option and is it the same on all 928s (94 GTS Auto)??

Still searching for the break light/parking break requirement.

I will have a indash unit when the Carputers are done, I do not think that they need a speed sensor hook up, but it should not be a issue if they do.

I once bought all the gear to make my own carputer and drowned in the pre planning stage (this is going back almost 10 years). I think the OEMs have it almost nailed down like Fords/Microsoft SYNC. I have it in my F150 and love it.

There is likely an illumination connection to the head unit already - use that. For the park signal do you want to use the emergency brake (all you have on a manual) or the transmission selector - an option if you have an Auto - especially if you don't always use the emergency brake?

For an Auto '94 GTS - find the T19 connector (near central electric panel/console) this is a 26 pin connector for all the rear connection for the instruments - find pin 20 Green wire. This is Park signal from the trans selector.

I have an alpine head-unit that is Nav and DVD. The parking brake wire is needed to "enable/disable" DVD playback and advanced menu options. Guess they don't want you watching DVD's while driving

Pressing the brake pedal as well as lifting the handbrake 2x's will enable DVD playback.

Tapping a speed signal tells the GPS unit...in areas where GPS is not reliable, what you are doing.

City canyons, mountainous areas, where I live...etc.

Thanks Allan,

I didnt see any illumination wire in the wires that were used for the POs head unit (an Alpine cassete deck). All I could find were:
Power
Ground
Ignition and
Power antenna

Everyhting on the Alpine was connected using anly those wires.

Hi Michael,

I am confused?
Do you mean to say that you lift and then depress the handbrake twice (hand brake does not need to be left engaged?). Is this a hack or by design from Alpine?

That is correct. It is making you match a sequence so that it is not a random action. Handbrake needs to be left engaged.

It may not be true in this case, but often the parking brake connection, intended to disable the DVD playback if you are driving, is simply looking for a ground. I have similar head unit - I just grounded that wire so the DVD player can operate whenever I want, and the passenger can watch a movie while we are on the road. Of course, I would never look at it while driving.

Bill: The Alpine's have a specific sequence to follow..for the good of humanity theyve kept it the same for years, so boxes to "do it for you on power up" work very nicely.

Simple ground wont do an alpine.

That is sweet!
Will it work with a JVC KD-NX5000?
If it does, I'm in.
