What About Stickers in Engine Compartment

Thanks Wally for the info on the intensive washer. I guess I had interpreted that to refer to maybe a different pressure that might have to do with washing the WS at say 160 mph. Now I understand what, why , where, and when for that sticker.

Wyatt, I think the cowl cover you are showing is likely original to your car, although I think the driver's end of it has been cut off. I also think it may have the ".02" Shell Sticker on it rather than the ".00" one. I can't tell that for sure because the picture iof it is too small. I think the part number for your cowl ends in "04." I think it was the firsst one that came out with the intensive washer; and that may have been with the cars we refer to as S3.
Your cowl cover is actually different than the ones Rob is showing in his post juast above yours. The main difference, aside from the missing dirvers end is that yours has two little raised flat areas at the back left and right corners. Otherwise It looks the same as the 05 cover. I also think that the 04 cover may also have had a slightly larger cut out opening for the intensive washer than the later 05 and 06 versions.
Thanks so much for your help on this search.

Hi Rob. What a great post with so much useful information. I think it is odd also that the Shell Stickers don't seem to follow some kind of chronology.
I am curious about the 05 in the top of your picture of the three and the 06 in to bottom of the same picture. I have the thought that the long ears shown on the front corners of each of those covers may actually be the metal reinforced rubber/foam seal that is seperate from these and is put on when the cowl cover has itself been put down over the sheet metal edge in front. Can you try to pull that up off of one or both of these and let me know?
And thanks to you also for your great help with this project.
I am going to take/have taken the idea about these as a project to heart.

Sure Jerry, I can get a pic sans the rubber seal tonight- , it just peels off the cowl cover and is its own part #. I think (but am not sure) it's 928 511 141 03, about $19 when I had to buy one. The cowl cover still has its own plastic ears, though I'm pretty sure the ones currently available have had them deleted, like the middle cover in the 2nd to last pic. The ears make it a PITA to install, you have to keep walking around the car to finagle the hood wiring harness and hoses into the ear slots.

The ears that must be under the seal are deleted on the two of these cowl covers that I have taken off of my 87 and 88 S4s to study. I had assumed that the ears were deleted or actually not ever part of the cover, on all of them.

Hi Jerry - I got bored tonight and made these. I think they're pretty close--if printed on gloss sticker paper, I think they'd be real close. I did them in PowerPoint. PM me if you'd like me to e-mail the template; should give you a jump start anyway. I'm all about freeing up your time for GTS wheel liners Take care / Bruce

Thanks Bruce for that effort. Those look pretty good. Not exact, but pretty good. I'll check with my sign guy who I gave my two originals to to try to duplicate and see if yours will help get him a better start. I'll let you know and maybe you can just send them directly to him.

Thanks Dave. By the way, were you interested in the pod cover patterns? I thought you mentioned some interest, but I don't think you sent your info. I'll be glad to send them if you would like.

Jerry-
Ok, so I was high, or something, this morning. There are no plastic ears on these cowl covers.

OK, Thanks Rob for checking and letting us know.
Now, we are making pretty good progress on the later style stickers and covers, but we haven't yet heard anything about the earlier partial covers and the stickers that might have been used on the air box with them.
Is there any more input on the use of the yellow sticker with red print? Thanks.

Hey Jerry - It occured to me, unlike the barcode stickers with different VINs, these could be static. So, here's a word document with the embedded images. I think the average person could print these on sticker paper and get by. Although not sure about the sunset yellow color...

I have found a couple or three pictures of another Shell Sticker in the thread about pictures of under your hood. I think I had seen one of these before. This additional version of the sticker is much like the yellow background one with the red print with three lines of words. There are two differences. one is that the basic background is white, but there is a yellow background-like boarder around it with the red surround line in about the middle of the yellow. Also, at least as far as I can tell from the tiny pictures I have found, these do not have a part number on them.
Can anyone post a good close-up picture of one of these three line stickers with the white background and yellow boarder?
I have the sign shop working on replicating these stickers and the artist has done a great job duplicating the 00 and the 02 versions and is working on the two three-line versions. He is also going to duplicate the intensive washer sticker for me, so I will have whatever will be needed to put on the various cowl covers when they are ready.
Right now I think that the yellow version of the sticker was likely the first one used in the 928 and it was put on the intake air box rather than on the 2/3 partial cowl cover. Then, I think the next version of this sticker with the three lines and mostly white background and no part number probably came in a little later (or maybe even earlier?); then I think the most common one is the 00 version with four lines of print and the two color stripes along the top, the one we seem to see the most of and that has been replicated by others. Finally, I think the 02 version which is much like the 00 with two color stripes came last and maybe only with the GTS cars. I wonder if any of the 90 to 92 cars had the 02 version. Does anyone have any ideas about that?
Thanks.

Can someone point me in the direction of a very close up view of the sticker on the condensor? Its probably the filling weight for the AC.
Jerry, I can't say if the cowl cover or the Shell sticker is original for my MY 85. What is different with the cowl cover that I show in my picture compared to others you've seen? Bear in mind, the one shown is broken and not complete on the driver's side. (I'm sure you knew this)
I'm pretty sure that the one I have now is shaped the same as the one pictured.
Here's a pic of the engine bay of the 86.5 with 6k miles, from Philly shown here I think last year or so. The cowl looks the same as mine but the Shell sticker is different.
