Default what do you think of this car?

hi all,

i wanted to see what the consensus is on this car.

i've seen it twice so far.

1978 Red 928 with 95k miles. VIN 9289200934.

original colour appears to be white (at least that's what i can see when i peel back the seals). new paint job appears fine, but i can see where it was over sprayed over in some areas. Should this matter?!

sorry about the bad pictures - it was starting to get dark.

take a look at the pictures. the interior needs to be redone (dash cracked and stained, carpet stained, seats, headliners).

as i understand it, the owner did a majority of the work himself (clutch piston, new front windshield - those are the things i can remember). he says all major service done 11k ago with lots of minor things. i should have written them down. arrrgh.

the car drove fine and shifted smoothly. electronics work.

how much do you think the entire interiorwork will cost (not DIY)?

what do you think this is worth (based solely on what you see)?

anything i'm not seeing?

btw, i have another one i saw yesterday.

i cannot post pics until i take these down - so i'll post it in a few days.

thanks!

-CK

Rough re-spray. Nice wheels.

Rough car, not driven in about 10 years, fixed up to pass smog last year and given about the worst looking paint job I've seen in some time. I wouldn't buy it except for parts, and I am not sure to me at least that I would pay even $500 for it. It might sell to somebody that doesn't know much about 928's for $1500 to $2000, but that is a very deep money pit.

Interior cost.
Two options are to swap in a non original later interior from a wrecked car, or have it reupholstered completely. 928Intl has a nice interior from time to time for about $2500 with labor to do the swap maybe $1k. Maybe $5k and up to have it redone nicely, maybe $2k in quality to match the paint.

Well.... it kinda looks like it was painted with a brush... Even a half decent repaint would be pretty expensive. The interior is shot... it'll cost a small fortune to get it redone by an upholstery shop... Hopefully, the mechanicals & electrical systems are all good. If it were me, I'd walk unless you've got plans to do a major mechanical transplant into a nice shell with decent interior.

Definitely not worth it IMHO. If the paint was applied that poorly and the interior is a wreck imagine how bad the mechanicals are.....

You said " but i can see where it was over sprayed over in some areas. Should this matter?!" That looks like about a $500 blow and go respray from One day body and paint. The amount of overspray everywhere plus the peeling paint under the hood means it is NEVER going to be a nice car without a proper repaint and probably really looked bad before. It however was worth more with poor original paint and easier to refinish correctly without all that red overspray. It just looks better now from ten feet away.
Looks like it has 8 inch S-4 rear rims however. And it is a 5 speed but restoring a color change car really limits it's resale value should you ever wish to sell it. Sadly the interior parts add up real fast and finding good used is getting harder and harder.

In the words of JB: "You are $10,000 away from ending up with a $5,000 car."

And if you are, you're crazy enough to run for public office.

I was wondering why I did not hear back from the op when I emailed him a link to my '84 S for sale a few weeks back. Now that I can see what kind of cars he is considering I get it

sheesh! op, why waste your time? Life is short.
