sheesh! op, why waste your time? Life is short.
To answer that question,
this OP is just beginning to learn about what to look for, he is merely showing us what he has found,
and our reply's should give him a better understanding of what to look for.
That said first you need to answer a few questions
How much do you have to spend?
Do you plan on working on the car yourself?
are you looking for a restoration project?
What will the car be used for once its drivable?
What body style do you prefer? Do you want a 5 speed or and auto? (drive both of them first)
Answer these questions and it will be easier to steer you in that direction

Ya..yer doin well, but..if it looks like homeless people lived in it and got a $50 paint job...determine what your goal is.
$10k into a car to make it worth $4k, or are you looking for a $3k car to turn into a $5k car.
I got lucky, I paid $4k for an 88S4, that after about $8k, im probly about even with..value wise.

mrmerlin,
i think this was addressed earlier but got buried in the long previous thread so i'll answer your questions again:
i'm looking for a 86 or older 928 (black > red > white). interior preferably black.
i can initially spend up to 8-9k for a really worthwhile car. i realize that maintenance runs 2k or more per year. i'm prepared for that financially.
still deciding on auto v 5speed. 5speed is really fun, but auto is more practical.
i REALLY want to eventually do all aspects of repair, but im thinking that it may be better to start out with a car that needs very little work starting out. however, i'll be OK with a car that needs some smaller easier projects within it that will not affect the safety or ability to run.
i have no prior experience with 928 cars (you've already guessed that).
very little cars ive seen thus far appear to fit the above criteria. i guess i have to be patient.
i do not race or drive the car hard.
i'm not planning on having a car for show. i want a drivable car.
i'm following your advice from the previous thread on due diligence and patience.
hope this answers your questions!
anything else, please let me know.

Thanks for the info,
so keep looking take you time,
leave the checkbook at home,
when you find a nice car you will know it,
this is how you sort out the junkers from the special cars, taking your time on a purchase will reward you with a better 928 to enjoy.
A lot of owners may not realize the benefit of having a turn key car till they have fixed atleast one basket case.
That said some owners do get enjoyment from taking a junker and turning it into a diamond.
Your right car is on the way, take your time and it will find you,
keep asking questions and posting pictures

i mentioned earlier that i did not want to purchase a car from outside of california.
i know this limits my search considerably, but im prepared for that.
i mentioned before:
just to clarify, i'm posting these pictures so that i can get feedback to develop sharper eyes - not because i'm considering all of them as candidates.
also, i'm certain that Rennlisters are curious about the cars for sale but are not interested in driving out to seeing them. i thought it would be nice to provide the 928 community with this info.
at the recommendation of several experts, im trying to view/drive as many cars as i can. part of my due diligence.
some may view this as a waste of time, but i don't want to jump in too early and drown.

I gotta say... considering just CA cars may be limiting yourself a little too tightly. The best part (for me) of finding the right, well sorted, car was driving it back 1200 miles... You couldnt knock the smile off of my face for a month
Also, prices in CA may be higher than in other markets outside of CA (high cost of living and all that)...
Keep looking. Keep writing. Your not bothering anyone. This is one of the reasons this site is here - so you/we can learn about these cars![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Once he has a clear idea of exactly what he wants, then maybe open the circle up a little, but realistically from a starting point a bit north of Los Angeles the "pockets" of 928's are Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Francisco, then lots farther away. To me a two hour drive better have some joy at the end, not tires to kick.
