Default Oil Level Sender = how does it work?

If the tip of the sender grounds, I presume it will defeat the sender?

the float drops then connects the two metal connections on the arm this triggers the light.
why would the tip be grounding?
its held in suspension?

The ones I have seen have a float around a bulb in the center that to be some kind of magnetic induction switch. I have not seen contacts on the arm.

I ask because (Stan) the tip of the arm is soldered, and with the new ob metal screen (which is bolted to the pan) there will be a clear electrical connection all along the tip through whatever it connects to on the other side. It occurs to me it should be insulated, but I guess we will see. I can prolly just do a quick resistance check. No friggin idea how I would reliably insulate it, but thankin God, at least it can all be done through the opening from the outside, since it is all together with spacer etc.

a picture of what you have would be helpful here,
but the wire runs down the inside of the arm.
THE outer area is grounded to the pan

OK, tested ... it's a very simple contact mechanism. On or off. At the lower end it groumds the wire/pin and worns. Just filing the tip a little has allowed it to clear, so I am fine . No shims needed.
