Ethre Has just earned ten internets and a beer. The cam gear was about 2 inches off from the notch it was supposed to line up with.
Now if somebody could please point me in the direction of a discussion on how to adjust the cam gears i would be very happy. thanks everybody

Bad news - you may be in to replace some of the gears depending on how worn they are
There are a bunch of different write ups on changing the timing belt and water pump (its the same procedure - just cut out the part for the water pump, or take the precaution and replace the pump too). Just find your favorite one with google or the search function here.
Your car should be a square toothed belt, but you should check both the belt you're removing and the gears to make certain it hasn't been converted to the HTD belt. That will determine which belt you need to buy (since yours likely has some damage from slipping).
You are going to need a tension tool and a flywheel lock (available from the normal venders - try 928 INTL or 928sRUS most likeyl). There should be several people in the area, some who may be willing to give you a hand. Alternatively Blown 87 runs a shop in Atlanta and will keep your car in good hands (may be another forum member around there with a shop too?).
