Default What is This Spring?

I found this tapered spring, about 3cm long and 1cm in diameter, under my car today.

Do you recognize it?

I've got the timing belt and power-steering pump out, if that helps.

(Also, it may be from some other—non-928—project.)

I don't recognize this spring immediately, but a tapered spring like that is often used for check valve *****. (the larger diameter end of the spring matches the bore diameter of the hole, and the small diameter of the spring is for the ball bearing side so as to keep the ball from spreading the spring and causing contact with the bore...

Places for tapered springs in a 928 that come to mind include the clutch master cylinder, the oil thermostat, early steering wheel horn pads, and the guts of HVAC vacuum pods. 1 cm in diameter seems too small for any of those.

Is the clutch master cylinder spring inside the cylinder? I haven't removed the oil thermostat or HVAC pods on this go-round.

If it isn't, you have significant problems.

Tony's thought is a good one. Can't think of anything remotely TB or PS pump- related that would have a spring like that.

I haven't disturbed the driver's door on this go-round. Must be from some other project.

Thanks, all.
