Its known as knuckle , see this site . Two sizes releavant - early cars 14.318mmOD (actually 9/16") and 20.318mm OD (actually 0.8"), both 8 threads per inch.

The small one is listed alone until 84, with size 15 x 1/8". In 85-86 both are listed with sizes, with an X in the qty column for the large one only. In 87 the small one disappears, but the X remains in place - typo I guess. Looks like a transition in the base chassis, as the thread is formed in it, and the location moved from under a bumper cover plug to visible in the air intake- whch I think should be the test - if its end is visible in the grille, it needs checking.
