I slathered a _solid_ amount onto my seats, then put a garbage bag onto the seats..and the leather just sucked it up pretty quick.

Should I add more of the oil at this time, or use the cleaner/scrub/wipe clean, then add more oil?

Complete the process with step 2. Then if you want to clean it more, start over.

Their conditioner products are top-notch. Hacker makes the right point; don't continue with part 1 over and over without getting the stuff off of the surface. The surface remnants get pretty sticky on a hot day if not removed well with part 2. I'm not sure of the chemical makeup of the two, but for quick jobs, step 2 ("Prestine Clean" - not sure if that spelling was intentional or not?) does a good job conditioning as well.

 

I think the 'steam bath' directions are BS. Rejuvinator Oil does act as an excellent solvent for removing dirt/oil/stains. I prefer to just clean the seats with Rejuvinator Oil and terri towels. Wear gloves while doing this. A byproduct of the cleaning is the softing/conditioning of the leather. I also finish up with Pristine Clean to remove any Rejuvinator Oil from the surface before sitting on the seats.

It's called 'oil' by Leatherique, but I've noticed that if you spill some on concrete and let it dry, it leaves no oily stain. So it must be mostly water.

 

I cleaned and scrubbed then Leatheriqued twice because a lot of “stuff” surfaced. After that I just Leatheriqued multiple times. My front seats were really card board and filthy.

They cam back to life well and the redye operation made them look almost new. A lot of work but minimal cost for what I got.

Although I have not found a list of ingredients or MSDS for Leatherique, it is pretty clear that the Rejuvinator Oil contains DMSO - which is a solvent - see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_sulfoxide It is readily absorbed thru skin - make that your skin as well as the cured skin/leather of your seat. While some believe DMSO has medicinal value, it will also increases the absorption of other compounds thru your skin, so not knowing what else is on my seats, I wear gloves when applying it. All that said, Leatherique is great stuff.

I looked at what Porsche sells. It's made by by Dr. O.K. Wack Chemie. O.K. Wack is probably not a real name.

Wack says their active ingredient is jojoba oil. Better than, worse than, same as Leatherique?

 

Used leatherique rejuvenater for many years. Always happy in the past. Then this happened last week....

For reasons unknown. It shrunk the leather and pucker it, rendering it unusable. Gave me an excuse to ditch the preservation repairs and just go new.

 

as always with these things, YMMV. Of course there may have been something funny in that batch.
I use leatherique every 2 years or so. After the first use, cardboard hard leather changed to soft and pliable.

 

Maybe whatever is in the Leatherique settled / separated and you got a bunch of stuff that doesn't do good things to leather when concentrated?

 

Absolutely. I loved the product up until this incident. I may contact the company. Not to brow beat or complain but merely for mutual education

 

I just spent the weekend two weeks ago restoring my replacement seats. these came out of a 928 that was exposed to the elements at various times. In other words, they were very dirty and very dry. I kept adding Rejuvinator over and over again until the seats would stay shiny. It took probably up to 5 applications for some of the sections. One they got to a point where they'd stay shiny, I went over them in total with the Pristine Clean and then wiped them dry. I am absolutely thrilled with the results. I'll be doing it again this weekend with the tan leather seats in my new 928.
