Default Coil Question for the electronics experts

The coils for the 85 to 88 32v cars 944 602 115 00 are becoming harder and harder to find. They have been on back order since last August and no sign of new deliveries so quantities are depleted.

The later 89 to 95 coils 928 602 116 00 are plentifull and apart from the different coil wire connector is there any reason why they could not be used on the earlier 85 to 88 32v cars??

Hi Roger
Don't know the specifics of these two coils, and it is possible that they are electrically different, but if the transistor units that drive them are the same, I would think they could be swapped.

Quick look at the PET for '88 and '93 shows 928.602.706.01 driving the coils in both cases, so my guess is yes.

They all use the same output amplier to drive them, so electrically they must be compatable, just the connector difference.

Roger didn't they use slightly different coil wire ends?

Thank you for your input and that answers the question.
We have continuity of supply - great.

Mike,
I supply lots of 944/951 customers - same problem.
Same source as I am - the wholesalers.
We all use the same major three wholesalers and all have no stock with no current delivery expectation.
Bosch has either decided not to make it anymore or there is a production issue. Been on back order since August. Hopefully we will get more at some point but that does not help with current shipments.

Roger, I've been running GTS coils in my '88 for two years, all I had to do was swap the coil wires and things appear to be going just fine.

Speaking of back order, ever hear anything about the shocks?

I assume you mean Bilstein shocks - about a month ago I heard that they were still at least 6 months away due to sourcing of the adjustable nuts or the material for the adjustable nuts.

Are both coil wires readily available?
