Is the power steering pump done if growls when cold?

The job was really easy until it came time to put that long bolt back in. No way to see in that hole to check alignment. I ended up getting it lined up after about 20 minutes of trying -- but using a piece of stiff wire as a feeler. I could determine if the holes were lined up by feeling for a catch pushing the wire in and pulling it out. I did this at the top, buttom, left and right positions in the holes until I could feel they were were perfectly aligned....then I put the bolt in on the "first" try (after getting the wire idea).
