Jerry, rarely does ANYONE think there own opinion is invalid. How about making some fender liners I have two other shops getting ready to make them but I am only going to pay for the first set.
And if you find yourself being the "bad guy in these threads" that might be enough feedback to reconsider how you post. Also Nicoles comment was NOT directed toward you but a response to Bill Ball's quoted post. The ability to read and understand is very helpful on public forums.
That is my limited wisdom.

Sterling, I've been there too; I think we all have at one point. Mine was just weeks before 3rd Coast. I was ready to go out and purchase the new 991 with the GTS as a trade. In my case just leading the drive at 3rd Coast changed my mind. The 928 is worth all the headaches and grief they give us.

My suggestion to you is take a break, take the girlfriend for a long weekend, get away from the car for a period of time. Go paint something in the house, whatever, just do something different for a period of time.

Yes, Brutus. It seems that way to me also. Jerry Feather

Don't give up on it!

I've been wrenching on mine for 2.5 years... I've still never driven a 928, mine made it a total of 1 mile around the neighborhood, at less than 10 mph...

The only thing that keeps me going is the thought "One day soon I'll get to drive mine", and a dream will be realized...

One day... Keep after them.

Although the original purpose of this thread may be unclear, what I take from it, having been out here for a while, is this:
Sterling just needs a place to vent his frustration. This is his place of respit, having known many folks out here for years.
He needs resassurance and humor.
His strong ability to develop his own image of what he wants his 928 to be, coupled with his strong vision, leaves it difficult for him hear other's approach to solving his problems. That is something only he will answer.
His high expectations for himself and what he does often leave him disappointed when required to rely on others. Either an adjustment in expectations will occur, or he figures out a new approach to communicate his expectations, or he will continue to bang his head up against walls until he busts them down. The latter, often leads to a big headache... and that is when he posts about it here. Not the first time this has happened.

Guy walks up to an old guy and asks "what's the best way to get to Boston?"
Old guy says "you walkin' or driving..?"
Guy say "driving.."
Old man says " Yep, that's the best way"

Or the answer might well have been "You can't get there from here!"

Or, it might have been the same guy on his way to Boston who was on a one lane road behind a small van/box type truck that stopped before every hill in the road, got out and took a board out from behind the driver's seat and beat on the side of the box then got back in and procedes up the hill. He did this several times and frustrated the guy on his way to Boston. Finally the guy on his way to boston got out at the next hill when the van type truck stopped and asked the driver why he was stopping at the bottom of each hill and beating on the side of the truck. The truck guy said. " this here is a one ton truck and have two tons of canaries in here and iffin I ain't got half of them in the air I can't make the hill."

The guy on his way to boston was of course driving a 928 with a highly modified hand formed aluminum hood.

Dude, Never Ever Give Up. These cars need your obsession. I'm only one year in and just finished my way through the first box of Diamond Gloves. As much as I wanted to do cosmetic stuff when I impulsively found her on eBay, I stayed the course and did the major mechanical work. I was fortunate having a great Wrench in the Raleigh area to lean on for critical technical issues. Learned a lot an enjoyed the ride. Stay the course and remember you're only $10,000 away from owning a $5,000 car. Now go drink some beer!

I've had several years of frustration with my 928(s). That's why I shot birds (not like Sean). Here's a
Sandhills Crane I got last weekend:

Got to do something with all that camera equipment in the off season...

So this horse walks into a bar...walks up to the bartender and says, "Hey, give me a cold beer." The bartender says, "Sure, pal. But what's with the long face?"

Hang in there, Sterling. I'd suggest taking a break and start cocktail hour an hour earlier for the next month or so. Sit back, enjoy the holiday season, and know that freaking car will still be there when you're ready for it.

All the best,

For a while there I thought people just didn't do what they told ME they were going to do...

It eventually dawned on me that 99.9% of people aren't worth a ****.

It's pandemic, man. Gotta find the .1%

I have a lot of hobbies, and I found that the only way for me to keep my sanity, is to do one project as a time,
and not to stop until that one project is completed. Once it's done, enjoy it. Then if you find yourself bored,
start a new project. But having endless, ongoing projects, with no defined completion, can get frustrating,
and end up bleeding money. It's no different with houses. It's one thing to do a basic remodel, to update
and fix problems. But if you are constantly spending money on house projects, your investment will rapidly
go beyond the value of the home.

You had a pretty clear concept in mind. To create the best, most modern version of a 928 that you could.
And it seems like you were/are pretty damned close to achieving that. So just finish it!

Once it's done, you can just drive it, and maintain it.
Don't start new projects on the car.

If you are bored, take up a new project or hobby.
Ideally something that's a little easier and less expensive to complete.
I prefer projects that I can finish in a few weeks or a few months.
Rather than projects that take years and years.
