Default Intake cleaning, silicon contamination?

I was reading on hear about cases of intakes being media blasted and causing engine damage! Given that I just had mine done, what the best way to clean out the intakes to avoid this!

I used a long flexible a/c / vent cleaning brush and a hose, seemed to the job. The brush is about two foot long with cone shape to it and flexible, it was purchased from ACE.

I did this twice despite having the intake washed by the soda blasters after blasting. No media or dirt came out.

If your intake was soda blasted, the media dissolves in water.

It's great from that point of view ... but you still need to remove blasted off paint and any small particles from the alloy of the intake lodged anywhere.

Clean it so many times that you would think there is no way there could be anything in it. Then do it again.

I filled my laundry tub with water and submerged it, brushed it and I got it all out. Then after it dried I blew it out with compressed air (nothing came out). Mine was done with glass beads so I had to be really careful!

The runners clean out fairly easy, but the plenums are a bitch with the internal bell-mouths. I did the above by flushing with water, then mineral spirits, then more water, and a rinse and repeat...

I wonder if one of those ultrasonic cleaners would work well for this? Anyone have any experience with these?

I used a toilet brush. The brush end was about 1/2 wider than the bell mouth..so worked nice, long flexible handle..worked well.

Scrubbed nicely.

I DID get some black sandy residue out of mine...yessir, I certainly _did_.

Start by soda blasting instead of bead blasting. Then do the above.

I flushed it with a waterhose until I could see no more contamination, then I blew compressed air through it and finally pulled some cotton rags through each intake runner twice.

Not to get off topic... BUT... what is the down side of prepping & painting the exterior without all the bead-blasting, cleaning, drying, baking, cleaning, drying & baking...??? I'm torn... I like the powder-coating, but have seen some nice paint jobs... Does paint hold up as well if using the proper paint... caliper paint, etc...??? Insights, comments, advise & opinions appreciated

The alloy, without cleaning, will be so incredibly oxidized and oil soaked..that it would be a disaster to try to paint/coat it without it.
